Houston Area Texans (H.A.T.) FreeRepublic Chapter - Meeting of 19 January 2002

The second meeting of the Houston area Freepers was held yesterday (Saturday, 19 January 2002) at The Mucky Duck at 3:00 PM. The following is a summary of that meeting.

As can be noted by the thread title, we now have a name and and acronym. We also have a logo. Kudos to antivenom for the time taken by her regarding thoughts on this issue.

The chapter name is Houston Area Texans (H.A.T.) FreeRepublic Chapter.
The chapter logo is a gray Texas cowboy hat, with the U.S. flag and eagle on the front. The chapter name is in red just below the hat.

22 people attended the meeting, including veterans of recent Houston area Freeps. That is a significant trend upward from the 5 attending the first meeting. Kudos to everyone who attended.

H.A.T. also has pro-temp officers, giving the chapter interim leadership until elections can be held. By unanimous consent, Anymouse is the chapter president, Humidston is the chapter email administrator, and PetroniDE is the chapter secretary.

H.A.T. also has an in-progress version of chapter by-laws. Those in attendance were giving the latest copy. There is still work to be done, but at least we have something preliminary.

Other topics of discussion:
- Looking to increase activity on Texas local board and Texas yahoo FR page. Recommend and encourage FR postings of local interest on those boards in addition to the national FR board.
- Chapter goals and guidelines.
- Official spokesman at Freeps. No official spokesman were assigned, but discussion regarding rotating based on issue expertise and experience of Freepers.
- Discussion regarding rotating meeting places around the Houston area.

I am still in Tulsa, Okla. for my mother's 75th birthday. Drove up here (12 hours - by way of Austin, DFW, OKC) Friday and that is why I missed the Saturday HAT Shindig. Showed our three almost grown kids where we got married 28 1/2 years ago. I showed them the exact spot where I stood, right before I went to the altar, and they played "Now we are marching down to the gallows" hahaha Tomorrow, we drive back 12 hours - to drop daughter off at UT

and then back to Gulf Coast aka Hicksville Lake Jackson... I will try to make it to the next HAT party/meeting. We go to the DUCK all the time, it is our fav. haunt in Houston! I am president of our local chapter of Republican women and one of my best friends is chairman of the county Republican Party. We are gearing up now with many planned activities, starting in Feb. I will post here.

You should see the one I didn't use. I tried to eliminate the ones where the click of the camera caught someone with their eyes closed, mouths agape, etc. This cut me down to about half of all the pictures I took.

The HAT Chapter was mentioned on the Jon Matthews show this morning. I believe the callers name was Bert. Does anyone know Bert?

I heard that segment too.

If the person who called is a Freeper, I suspect that his handle is "A+Bert". Can't think of anyone else who's name and/or handle has "Bert" in it.
