FReeper names explained
My curiousity | Now | Yours truly

Posted on 01/18/2002 5:03:35 PM PST by Come get it

Some FReepers have nicks that are obvious in their origin, others don't. I've seen several that probably have interesting stories behind them.

I thought it would be cool to see where FReepers get their handles from. If you don't like this topic, DON'T POST HERE! No one forces you to read this. I'm sure other people may be interested. If I'm the only one, let me know so I can crawl away in shame.

I live in the Bay Area and like watching and playing basketball. I can't wait until we get a team.

Dawsquat: When I first bought my 'puter and was signing on with Compuserve I tried dozens of names and they were all taken. I decided to "cuss" at it. I typed in DAWGSQUAT and damn if it didn't take it. Been stuck with it ever since.

In the year 2000, when the entire country was making fun of the Great State of Florida, I received an email joke from Tennessee about voters from Florida. I had a different freepmail name but since the recount, recount, recount, I am proud to be floriduh voter. Some folks just call me duh.

Head On - It's the way I approach problems (and confrontations). Just like my buddy John Wayne in "True Grit" - "Fill your hands, you ##@ - #$ - % - @#&^*! "

It would be my car license plate if I thought it was worth $50 to get it. Of course, "head on" is not a real nice thought in a car...

I didn't really go for the handle *MissusDawgsquat* so instead, I appropriated the name of our beagle-dawg, MississippiDeltaDawg, Missy for short:

The wisest animal in my barn is an old shetland pony. (A stupid typo left off the "d")

Obvious to most people is that a tricorn hat was a three cornered hat in fashion during the time of our country's birth. It, and my mock e-mail address of UpholdOriginalIntent@USConstitution.please! is meant for us to remember what the founding fathers were going through at the time, and thus attempt to see the Constitution through their eyes as they intended it.

Thankee! Here's a pic of our two dawgs, Missy and Lucky Boy -- Dawgsquat found Lucky on the side of the road about 8 years ago, limping, starving to death, so he brought him home. The bestest darn dawg what ever lived! We got Missy last August, she'll be a year old in June. She's not much bigger now than she is in this pic -- Dawg says we got the runt of the litter, and even though she's still a handful, she's very, very thweet.

Scholar Warrior:

I tried Cicero, but that was taken, as was Pericles.

And, Likpadello would have been too obscure and egotistical.
(It's a Sherpa greeting that means "my organ is large")

So, I looked on my bookshelf and my eyes landed on a book titled "Scholar Warrior" about Taoist philosophy. Works for me.

Do the Sherpa typically greet one another with a description of their own anatomy? I don't think I'd shake the hand of someone who, instead of "hi", greeted me with "I have a large ______".

I can't explain Sherpas.
As my father in law would say,
"Well, we didn't have toys to play with when I was young..."

I was always conservative. Verry Conservative. But fair, and tolerant.

Then, the cops shot down a good man, and I got less tolerant, less fair, more laconic.
(What was that? Ok, Bill.)

I like it.

I gotta bump this every now and then. There's a few newbies that might like to chime in, and probably a few that have never seen it. It's a fun one.

A Xenolith

Xenoliths are inclusions of surrounding rock into an igneous intrusion. The small to huge chunks of the surrounding rock break off and either settle in due to density differences or get swept around from convection currents.

I was born in an earthquake, I'm a geologist, go figure :)

rdb3 are my initials. It's far more expedient to use '3' instead of 'III.'

Which looks better, 'rdb3' or 'rdbIII?'

No mercy.
