2002 - THE YEAR OF THE RADICAL..FREE REPUBLIC... OH REALLY?
ETHERZONE | SARTRE

Posted on 01/17/2002 6:21:17 AM PST by newsperson999

With the passage of time, every day matters. The direction of events and the ultimate consequences of the pivotal transformation in America, cannot be clearer. Yes, the War on Terror, is changing the Nation more than the horror of those eight Clinton years. The prime fault lies not with the Bush administration, but rests with the American People. That is not to exclude the President or his appointees from allowing this frightful trend to take hold. So what is this threat to civilization and the national heritage? Well, it should be obvious, it is called Patriotism.

Now before you lynch the messenger, consider the nature of National Loyalty. We are told that Patriotism is love for one's country, which is valid. But in practice, the current version of devotion to country, is defined as blind faith and obedience to government policies. We are continuously told that at no other time has the American public been so united. But the reality is, never have they been more wrong. Wrong to support a false and destructive policy to police the world, American style. CLICK FOR FULL ARTICLE..

Heck ... now we're a threesome!

FWIW I believe that educating others is not a lost cause ... many are waking up, and it's the first step.

Then, that education has to turn to activism ... getting active in actual events/issues. I believe that doing it outside the major party apparatus is not only possible, but necessary because of the corruption that exists (not in all members for sure, but in all of one leadership and in a lot of the other). A corruption that is there by design IMHO.

I also believe that part of the education and part of the activism has to be in returning to our moral foundation ... JA and I would call it repentance and turning to God ... OWK and others would call it perhaps a revival of moral principle, a return to fundamental, natural law ... either way it represents the same thing.

Each person has to be personally active in these endeavors ... passionately, committed, unreserved except within bounds of common sense, common decency and as directed by the voice from within that I would call the Holy Ghost and others might simply call their conscience. The more momentum we build, the more who become so involved ... the more progress we will make. It will not require a majority ... the foundation of this Republic did not require a majority.

Oh well ... there I go, going on and on again.

Gotta go cotact some more fire departments.

Been around here for a couple days now and I believe JimRob is "man of the decade" for what he has accomplished here and for his motivation.

If these are Jim's words: "We must unite behind our Commander-in-chief and do all we possibly can to support him and our war efforts. We do not have a choice in this matter." And if he would sincerely say the same thing if William Jefferson Blythe Clinton, the TRIMPOTUS, were in office then my hat would drop to the floor to dip a bit lower in my estimation of Jim's love of country.

I know I don't possess the strength of character to say I would support Xlinton in the same manner I am supporting Bush.

I do agree with the article from the standpoint that we in our united support should not throw out the baby with the bath water. But I also still believe in the power of the ballot box and if our leaders overstep their mandate we still have the power to oust them. I also believe I trust JimRob and his group of moderators in deciding what threads to send to the ignoble dump heap of deletion. Bottom line is that whether I support them or not is irrelevant as this is Jim's house and his rules. No one is holding a gun at my head making me read and post here.

What the author fails to take into consideration is that in all national conflicts certain liberties have been modified by mere action of the people, not necessarily fiat, until the danger has passed.

TLBSHOW, I just read the thread to which you've linked. Sounds as though things got a little personal on the other thread. While I won't make a factual judgment as to summer's political stance (haven't had enough experience with her to know), it's in poor taste to spread flame wars to unrelated threads. Your "connection" between summer and some liberal effort to sabotage FR is tenuous, at best.

Thanks for the link. I'll return to the Patriot thread to argue in more depth but, given your reasoning in the Rockwell article ...

(that because you can drive a truck through their three-pronged test for proving a domestic terrorist, any one definition cited -- especially from the slate of possibilities included in section (B) -- is somehow NOT a truthful representation of what the Act means by "domestic terrorist")

I fear it's going to be like arguing SB-130 (Texas's so-called "Parental Consent" bill) all over again.

We'll see. I'll see if I can't come up with something substantive for you to take apart and will do my best to find the Ashcroft quote.

The quote, in my best opinion , is from this letter:
'. In a letter sent to key Senators while Congress was deliberating over this legislation, Assistant Attorney General Daniel J. Bryant, of DOJ's Office of Legislative Affairs, openly advocated for a suspension of the Fourth Amendment's warrant requirement in investigating foreign national security threats.7 The Bryant letter brazenly declares:
As Commander-in-Chief, the President must be able to use whatever means necessary to prevent attacks upon the United States; this power, by implication, includes the authority to collect information necessary to its effective exercise.... '

Of course the President must be able to use whatever means are "neccessary"- in the actual meaning of the word- 'irreplaceable'.
There is no obstruction to that in the Constitution.

It's the use of unneccessary or unConstitutional means that are a danger.

"Jim Robinson not only had an idea - a way to fight. He has implemented it. Those who would tear him down or Free Republic down have simply lost their way."

Well said!

Yes, this would best be done on those threads.

A debate over the definitions of both "and" and "or", or either "and" or "or" (ie: the lewrockwell thread) is completely pointless IMO.

I'm really pleading here for more substantive debate from your side
Please feel free to "ping" me to such threads if it occurs to you to do so, and if you run across any.

SARTRE is quite flattered that so many conservative republicans have concluded that the content in this article demonstrates disloyality to the foreign policy of both parties. Between the eagerness of the mob to lynch the bearer of this message, might there be anyone who has the courage to debate the Real Issues? If you were offended by the satire, you are not familiar with BREAKING ALL THE RULES. And for the claims that SARTRE is a Lefty, please read the author before you make a fool out of yourself. SARTRE has followed FR for a very long time and has always valued an open dialogue. If you censure those who disagree with the War Party, you will loose the Liberty that all true conservatives rightfully seek to defend. So what kind of character do you people possess? The courage to debate, or the fear to hasten the New World Order? A geniune conservative wants to restore the Republic. SARTRE follows the traditions of Allan Keyes and Pat Buchanan. Your emails will be answered at: sartre@frontiernet.net Visit BREAKING ALL THE RULES and read the content before you hang this messenger. http://sartre.info James Hall SARTRE

"SARTRE has followed FR for a very long time "

So SATRE knew he was misusing the Jim Robinson quote.
mrsmith was not sure if that was done by accident or was a deliberate, knowing attempt to decieve.

mrsmith thanks you for clearing that up.

DAVID HOROWITZ: THE MAN WHO IS MAKING CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN PATRIOTISM HIP AGAIN

DAVID HOROWITZ,one of the chief engineers of George W. Bush’s "compassionate conservative" crusade, saved our country in 2000 from both Mr. Keyes and the Democrats. As the man who is making conservative Christian patriotism hip again, he never raises any doubts about our leaders. He and his website, Frontpagemag.com are now changing the fundamental direction of our nation by ridding our school system of leftist evildoers.

Until now, most Americans have been forced to watch our country and its culture drift further and further to the left. Not knowing the true reasons for this degeneration, we have felt helpless to stop it. We have wasted our time and our money supporting political candidates who have cynically sold us false promises about their ability to restore true American values. Now, after years of investigation and with precious little time to spare, DAVID HOROWITZ has finally found the ACTUAL SOURCE of this foul tide. Armed with irrefutable proof, he has exposed the CONSERVATIVE HOLOCAUST that has until now been secreted behind the tall, ivy-covered walls of academia.

Freepers, I personally urge you to support Mr. Horowitz's campaign in every way possible. Forget the politicians. Instead, speak to your neighbors. Form committees. Demand to see what is actually written in the textbooks given to our kids. Write letters demanding protection for conservative students and faculty. Show up at David's campaign stops. Visit Frontpagemag.com. Finally, and most importantly, I urge you to immediately send David as much money as you possibly can to save our Christian conservative values from extinction. And please, FReepers, DIG DEEP because this is no time for half measures.

With David's leadership, we can and we will DEFEAT INTELLECTUAL TERRORISM and save our country from the evils of FULL BLOWN SOCIALISM.

Thank you, America, LET'S ROLL!

As should be obvious from my posts (particularly the link I gave), I agree in large part with many points of your piece. I just found fault with some of your foundation and your conclusions, that's all.

As for your handle, what can I say? I have a hard time taking seriously folks that name themselves after Rand novel characters as well. Leads me to believe there might be some ill-thought infecting their otherwise commendable reason, admirable spirit ... and often dead-on, wicked humor.

Regards.

I found this place back in the days when Drudge had a link posted to Alamo-girl's stuff. I'm starting to wonder if it wasn't so much the "pro-liberty" stance that attracted people so much as it was the "anti-Clinton" environment. Without, er, "tricky-Dick" II to kick around, will it remain a supposed "pro-liberty" forum, or will it become a "pro-Bush", "anti-terror" forum?
