Deal may depend on Norv Turner being hired as assistant coach

FROM NEWS SERVICES

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman is completing a deal with the Miami Dolphins, after sitting out the 2001 season, according to ABC News Radio.

The Dolphins declined comment Sunday, and coach Dave Wannstedt told a team spokesman that he would answer questions about Aikman on Monday.

ABC News Radio reported Aikman - who had 11 concussions in 12 seasons - is 99 percent sure he wants to play again, particularly with the Dolphins if they hire Norv Turner as their new offensive coordinator.

Turner, a longtime friend of Wannstedt's, was the Chargers' offensive coordinator this season. He would leave San Diego if he is not elevated to coach to replace the fired Mike Riley, or the Chargers don't hire a coach with whom he wants to work.

Chan Gailey, who was the team's offensive coordinator the past two seasons, is taking over as the coach at Georgia Tech.

The Dolphins' current quarterback, Jay Fiedler, can opt out of his contract, although Miami has the right of first refusal should he receive an offer.

''I would love to stay here,'' Fiedler said. ''I'll let things play out. We're at a point right now where it's up in the air. My first choice would be to be back here with the Dolphins.''

He'll be eating apple sauce only in ten years or so.

I would think a stiff breeze would make his head hurt at this point.

Yeah. It's odd. This morning the font I was looking at on FR was roughly 10 point Times New Roman. Now it's at least 16 points. On all pages. And FR is the only website affected. Is it me or is someone trying out something new?

Aikman insisted until his retirement that the concussions had nothing to do with the severe drop-off in play quality during the 2000 season. He maintained that it was his back, which had been a problem his entire career, and apparently had progressed to the point where he was never free of the pain of it.

His accuracy was off severely in 2000. He didn't look like the same quarterback. By the end of the year he was suffering concussions from blows that he would have shaken off six years ago. No one played the game as tough as Aikman. He would sit in the pocket, and sit some more, make his throw and get blasted off his feet. Then he'd get up and do it again. In his prime he was absolutely fearless.

Did anyone else's fonts in FR just grow a few points? I don't see it on any page or application except FR. Strange.

It happens to me sometimes using IE. To fix, go to View | Text Size and reselect.

Let's throw out the welcome mat for Good O'l Troy!

He can tool around a season or two and open up a restaurant.

South Florida needs another good steakhouse...

Like Palm Beach needs more Democrats and dimpled chads.

Maybe Troy needs the money to pay for his medical bills from previous injuries....

Hmmm, that doesn't work.

Actually, no. It's my browser. Even though it only is happening on FR, I tried to surf to FR on another PC and it looks 'normal'. Looks like it's time for surgery!

Troy will always be a Cowboy.

I know how you feel. Bernie Kosar will always be a Brown, but after his release for "diminished skills" (actually because he showed up his coach to be an a**hole) he filled in for Aikman in a playoff game and helped Dallas get to the Super Bowl.

Regarding any return with the Dolphins, he must be nuts. I saw their offensive line play yesterday and behind it is the last place anyone with a history of concussions should be standing.

P.S. It's not just fonts. You're photo comes out a lot larger too. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. =;^)

Roger Staubach had something like 20 concussions in his playing career, back to high school, and to the last day of his career he never lost a thing. In 1979 he was the top ranked passer in the league. Perhaps it was the NFC, I cannot remember.)

It's not Aikman, really. The Dolphins want that rubber blow-up doll of him that's been showing up in commercials. That way, he doesn't get hurt, and they are still no worse off.

Not real bright? He runs two companies on the side, along with being one of the greatest quarterbacks ever! Not too bright indeed. MM

Poor man, he's my age, 35 which isn't old, but for football after 11 concussions...stop the madness!

Troy needs to learn to kick field goals, so he can play till he's 48 like another grizzled old quarterback.
