Of course, since November 1963 that no longer exists

I think it preceeds Nov. '63 - it stems from when those in the press first learned that they could affect the King's or the people's opinion, as required and when required to influence a situation to one of *their* (the press's) liking or desire.

you may be correct, but it was really mobilized on Nov. 22 1963

This first occured during the Crimean War with the reporting of Willam Howard Russell and Thomas Chenery for The Times about the horrible condition of the British war wounded.
