Open the email in it’s own window. In the new window’s menu bar, click on “properties”. A new “properties” window will open up. There will be some information displayed, and on top there will be two tabs, “General” and “Details”. Click “Details”, and the following information will be displayed: (Please note this is a sample. Some of the numbers and internet service provider info, as well as the to and from email addresses; will be different.) The numbers in white are what you are looking for.

The numbers in white represent the location of the computer which sent the email to you. An IP# is a unique number which represents a computer. Every computer has one, and no two computers have the same IP#. This is how you can locate the computer from which the email was sent to you. You can use this number to trace their computer.
To trace their computer, you can use an easy, simple program called TJPING which you can get free by downloading these two files:

You can use any of three useful features in this program. One is Ping. This will send a signal out onto the internet, directed at the computer of the person who sent you the email. It will then return to you with a signal from that computer, the way a ping pong ball would. The next feature is Trace. This will trace every computer and server the email passed through en route to you. The first server listed will be your own, and gradually as the list progresses, all the servers up through the Freeper’s server. The third feature is Lookup. Lookup will reveal the internet account of the Freeper. If you have any trouble reading the information provided by TJPING or in you email properties window, call your own internet service provider and ask for the abuse department. Their staff will guide you through the process to help you.
This information will help you determine who the freeper’s internet service provider is. Type the company’s name into a search engine. You can then find the Service Provider’s general phone number on their website. Ask for the abuse department and give them the information. depending on the number of messages you received, they may be required to disconnect the Freeper’s service.
You can report unwanted SPAM to Spamcop by sending them a new email, with the SPAM Messages as attachments.
