The GUILD 1-8-2002 WE GOT A THANK YOU NOTE FROM THE USS ROOSEVELT!!!!!

Subject: NOTE OF APPRECIATION

Dear Ms. (HLL)

Greetings from a staff member of Carrier Air Wing ONE deployed on board the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71). First of all, let me state that I am honored to write and say "thank you" the donation of the heart filled stockings. They are truly beautiful and a blessing. We enjoyed the products inside but the personnel from my office was most blessed by the beauty of the stockings. You have to remember, we did not have much holiday decorations and then these beautiful stockings arrived. Men and women were fighting over them....they are absolutely beautiful. The products most useful is the hygiene items. These items go so quickly from the small ship's store. So you can imagine the smiles on our faces when we saw necessities!!!!

I am not a pilot and do not wear a flight suite but I will pass my lovely scarf onto my immediate supervisor, Captain Cathey, who is a F18 pilot. He will get some great use out of it. He will be most appreciative.

I did go to the FREE REPULIC webpage and searched for "THE GUILD" but nothing ever showed up on the computer and a message came back stating the search was unable to find "THE GUILD"..so I am not educated on your organization and would truly be interested in learning. As well, I have never been to the Michigan area and would love to hear more about both if your time permits.

Well, a little about myself. I am a Naval officer and have been in the Navy for 18 years. Out of the those 18 years, 13 years were spent as an enlisted woman and then I applied for a commissioned and here I am 6 years later still progressing. Prayer is Powerful. I am in charge of the administration department for the Air Wing Staff which is directly responsible for the eight aviation squadrons who fly the planes. So we are about 1200 people complement that come on board to invade the ship prior to the cruise. It is love and war...the ship needs us to do its mission and we need the ship to support our flying mission...we learn we complement each other. I love my job and am extremely proud of what we are doing right now. This is not like any regular deployment and we know we are loved back home and that makes it even more worth the while.

Alright, I will take up too much of your time. I just wanted to ensure I expressed to our appreciation for your support and let you know we did receive the beautiful stockings. Mine will remain handing until we return to Virginia.

God Continue to Bless You!

A deep frost will supposedly kill all the bugs and mellow out the ground for a better seedbed.

Thanks for the info - although with two seconds of thought, it makes perfect sense. Please be well and safe as you take care of all your chores, etc. ;-)

Heads up, Lodwick...........My car is going in the shop today so they can fix my car windows that THEY broke last month. I called them last week to make an appointment ( of course they don't take appointments) and they were real snotty. They said it would be at least two days to fix. Are they offering me a rental car? OF COURSE NOT. They just treated me like I am the biggest pain. Well they are the ones who broke my windows and alarm, not me.

On a positive note, the alternator is working just great.

Car thoughts up - mechanics, get it right the first time, please!

#57 questions about the Guild echo my own. Please let us know the Postage Fund/Goodie Fund status, and if Charitable designation is a doable deal. The write-off would be most welcome, and would probably enhance revenues. Thanks, JL

From today's Neal Travis column, NY Post:

I got a bunch of angry calls yesterday from Clinton supporters, claiming I'd unfairly put the blame for Buddy's death on Bill. This was a new low "even for The Post," spluttered one reader. (Lord knows what he meant by that.) Anyway, get off my back and get on that of Don Imus. The morning radio star has been unrelenting (and hilarious) in his coverage of the former first dog's demise. Imus thinks it's all part of the Vincent Foster conspiracy. The Clintons, by the way, were coming to grips with their grief in Acapulco yesterday. I hear they had a splendid lunch with the Obelfelt family, who own the Bank of Mexico

More FOBs who probably warrant investigation by the Guild! Curiously, I'm unable to find the name in the Bank of Mexico annual report that's online. When Travis says "the Clintons," wonder if he means Bill 'n' Hill, or Bill 'n' Chels, considering Hillary may not have gone on this family holiday at all.

I know this is tough to manage, and still maintain your anonomity, but I'd like to send you a check to help offset your expenses for the Valentine's Day project, or for you to purchase additional items for the troops.

If your willing to accept, please freepmail me with instructions.

Billy Boy's Mom's favorite entertainer, Elvis Presley, would have been 67 today. Or perhaps he is 67 today, if he is still with us but hiding out somewhere. If you see a senior citizen type munching on a peanut butter-nanner sandwich today in some remote diner, telling everyone it is birthday, get out that camera. The Enquirer would love a new sighting of him.

Well, since my baby left me,
I found a new place to dwell.
It's down at the end of lonely street
at Heartbreak Hotel.

You make me so lonely baby,
I get so lonely,
I get so lonely I could die.

And although it's always crowded,
you still can find some room.
Where broken hearted lovers
do cry away their gloom.

You make me so lonely baby,
I get so lonely,
I get so lonely I could die.

Well, the Bell hop's tears keep flowin',
and the desk clerk's dressed in black.
Well they been so long on lonely street
They ain't ever gonna look back.

You make me so lonely baby,
I get so lonely,
I get so lonely I could die.

Hey now, if your baby leaves you,
and you got a tale to tell.
Just take a walk down lonely street
to Heartbreak Hotel.

Thank you so much. I think all of us who have been working on this can agree that it's a labor of love.

So many refuse to thank the brave men and women who make so many sacrifices so that we may live in freedom. We must thank them. It's our duty and honor of living in a free country and the blessing of being an American.

Perhaps if you let us in on exactly what these labors of love entail, others might feel more confident about supporting your endeavors here or starting similar projects on their own.

I too am interested in the answers kcvl posed in #57.

I can't imagine why she is ignoring me. I'm trying to help with the troops also. I guess I'm not invited to the party. I wonder what one has to do to get your questions answered on the Guild?

You, and everyone is definitely invited to do whatever they can do to support our service folks.

One thing I found out here on FR, is that many of us have the luxury of being able to freep and post almost 24/7 - while many more good members still have jobs, careers, etc. which they also take very seriously.

If you would go back to some of the pre-Christmas threads there is information about what various folks are buying, or making, or simply donating so HLL can purchase the presents locally without costing us double postage.

A few weeks ago, I suggested that Charitable Status would be a very good thing for the Guild to achieve, and considering what we are trying to accomplish, there should be no reason for our application to not be accepted.

Hoping this helps, JL

Thanks for your help. I appreciate that.

It would help if HLL would give us some information about how she goes about contacting businesses to donate merchandise. I'm sure there are many who would be willing to help out by doing this if we knew how. I don't seem to be able to get an answer. I'm not completely certain that I want to send money to someone that I don't really know. But, I would be willing to contact companies(that I know) for contributions of merchandise and/or donations, if that's what she is doing. Again, some information would be helpful.

Hey - my standards on whether to trust someone are pretty simple: is the person honest? And everything that I have ever seen from HLL's keyboard is the truth. From her Garlic Smashed Taters receipe to the nice letter from the USS TR.

I will now endeavor to get to the nuts and bolts of the 503(c) puzzle, to mix the metaphors slightly, and post my findings when they are found. FReegards. JL

HLL is probably sitting at the car repair place all day waiting for those buffoons to fix her car for the umpteenth time.

Some of the labors of love....scarves sewn to help with neck chafing...christmas stockings made or purchased and sent to HLL and she stuffed with donated or purchased items...several of us had the kids in our kids class decorate stockings and write letters to the soldiers, etc....many of us send funds thru paypal to help cover the postage costs and purchase items.

Can't help you on the corporate donations or charitable contribution questions, HLL will be able to do that when she returns to the forum.

Have a great day

Hey - very nice to see you here. Thanks for the enumeration of what all's been done through the Guild. (The buffoons had totally slipped my mind.) lol

I think algore's internet is going to catch on - in a few clicks, the tax exempt info as well as the IRS stuff is available to us all. Amazing. JL
