Bob Stoops is headed to Florida. That according to a report from a Florida TV station minutes ago. Mike stoops and others on the staff can tell you that they did not know of this decision until moments ago. More later.

This is the best possible choice. The Gators won't even break stride. I wish that were true. Four players who had previously decided to stay for their junior or senior years - Jabar Gaffney(WR), Reche Caldwell(WR), Lito Sheppard(DB) and Mike Pearson(OL) - chanegd their minds over the weekend. The third starting WR, Taylor Jacobs, is considering leaving too. Now, with all three of the best WR's possibly gone, Grossman and Berlin will have tough choices. UF could end up losing not only their coach, but also their three best receivers, there best DB, a good lineman and maybe its TWO quarterbacks. They could be even more desimated than FSU was this year.

OK. Bitter(name your school) fan who didn't win the national title last year. Perhaps Fla St?

63-14 and 14-3So, is Texas waiting on pins and needles hoping Stoops leaves? Oh wait, I already know the answer to that one.
To: Frank Grimes
I like all the schools that arent media favorites and coached by poopy heads. Well, okay, so I liked Florida, but had to suffer with Spurrier.

"FYI, four years ago, the University of Tennessee informed the SEC and the University of Fla that it would discontinue the series unless Florida figured out how to protect visiting fans"
What is your source on this, your imagination?
To: TN4Liberty
"Spurrier never got over the fact that Tennessee didn't recruit him."
Another stupid move by the might Vols since Spurrier won the Heisman. You've got that Volsheimers disease don't you TN4liberty.

Update: Things are picking up at the Switzer Center (coach's offices are there next to the stadium for non-OU folks) according to Channel 4! There should be an announcement shortly. Someone from FL athletic office is saying Stoops will turn down the Gator offer. Foley arrived in Norman at 10:30 and had been meeting with Stoops. Foley left the Stoops house 15 or 20 minutes ago without Bob Stoops. Carol took him back to the airport. They spoke for a 45 minutes. Press is surprised if Stoops took the job that he wouldn't be with the FL AD!

Tennessee was still running the single wing (one of the last, if not the last to change to the T formation) when Spurrier was a senior in high school in 1962. For those who don't know, the single wing did not utilize a quarterback.
As a result, Tennessee had no chance to land two high profile quarterbacks in East Tennessee--Steve Spurrier to Florida and Steve Sloan to Alabama.
Doug Dickey became Tennessee's head coach in 1964 and installed the T formation.

so you say that OU is a media favorite? ok, I get it now. You must REALLY follow college football pretty closely. You're last name isn't Corso by chance is it?

GREAT UPDATE FROM CHANNEL 4: Bob Berry, Jr., just reported that the control tower at Max Westenheimer is reporting that the FL AD's plane is now headed for Denver and that Joe Castigleone is saying that Stoops is staying at OU. When they interviewed Foley when he arrived, he said he had not offered the job to anyone and that he was here to talk to Bob about the job knowing full well that Bob loved the University of Oklahoma. Bob Berry is reporting that Stoops is staying.
Can you say Shanahan will be the next coach of UF?
To: Frank Grimes
LOL! Nope. You don't think Nebraska, ND and OU are poll favs? No matter what their record is? Which one of us deosn't follow football?! How was the Gators defense after Stoops left?
To: Night Hides Not
Times have changed. A poll was conducted among Div 1 coaches on the best school to coach at...Oklahoma was #16 and I believe Notre Dame was #6 or #7. Florida was #1, Texas #2 and Miami and Florida State both in the top 5.

keep me pinged too. I am in Tulsa, so I don't know what OKC is saying but am anxiously awaiting word.
To: RedBloodedAmerican
NU-Yes. ND-Big Time Yes. OU-No friggin way.The media has hated us since Barry was around. Do you think there was any way we would've even sniffed the title game last year if we hadn't run the table? NO WAY!
To: cactmh; Frank Grimes; OK Sooner; VOA; OKCSubmariner
The only thing I have to report is that the FL AD's plane did take off for Denver from the OU airport. The coaches are gathering at the Switzer Center and an announcement could come at anytime!

Hey Sooner fans....you guys should feel lucky with the position your in that your guy Stoops is being heavily courted.Us Buckeye fans would have been thrilled that someone would have tried to steal John Cooper from us a few years back(notice nobody did?).We finally have someone we can respect(Tressel)and feel confident in.I hope Stoops stays...he can continue to build his own dynasty in Norman!Although Florida weather right now is very very Balmy.
To: oust the louse
Maybe the football Gods are shining on Norman. For the first time in several weeks, our weather has warmed up into the 50's and 60's tomorrow! The Stoops are building a new million dollar house that they visited yesterday and people have been sending notes and flowers to them asking them to stay.
I cannot believe how long they kept John Cooper at OSU! My Dad wanted rid of him almost right after he was hired! I heard him say on one of the TV football broadcasts recently that he would like to get back into coaching! Pity the poor school that hires him!
