I'm sure Jesse Jackson and a bevy of class action lawyers are licking their chops right now.

And you thought planned community homes had dumb-assed mandatory rules just wait until you move onto this thing.

Reminds me of a scheme a friend and I cooked up in college. I read that the old WW2 carrier Enterprise had been sold for scrap for $450,000. We cooked up a scheme to buy another old carrier, anchor it in the Carribean, declare independance and turn it into a resort. We figured we could declare war on the US then immediately surrender and apply for financial aid. We were going to name it Sodom figuring that if the plan worked we could do it again calling the second one Gomorrah.

"Freedom Ship will have space for 17,000 resident families, up to 20,000 daily visitors and 3,000 commercial enterprises, including banks, restaurants, grocery stores, and video-rental places."
Yes, but what I want to know is will they have a piggly wiggly?

I hope nobody mentions that stuff about; "God Himself couldn't sink her" A la the Titanic.

Many fine comments already posted above - a obvious terrorist target being #1.
But would YOU want to live in a place that thinks it'll need one cop for every 10 residents? Sounds worse than the projects to me. As long as they can choose their population, wouldn't you think they'd screen out the lowlifes and crooks to save money on cops?
My little town has about one cop for every 1,000 residents. And crooks don't have to swim to get here.
And just how is it surrounded by a marina? Does it tow hundreds of small boats behind it when on the move?
Great idea, lousy concept.

For a moment there I thought I was reading the latest from Bruce McCall of
RMS Tyrannic fame.

Funny to see this post for last night I was checking this sight......ResidenSea.com
If you have 2,000,000.00 or up and 5,000.00 a month or up for maintenance fees you're ready to sail the High Seas now! Quite impressive, check out the condos and drooooool! ;-)

An ocean based BABYLON 5. What nations will play the parts of the different races?

Let's see.
At a displacement of 2.75M tons, this sucker will have a draft of about 26 feet.
At 350 feet high, those on the upper decks better have some nicely monogrammed barf bags handy whenever the wind gets over 15 knots.

The idea of living on a cruise ship isn't new, I believe current cruise ships offer that option. As nice as it is to be in the carribbean during winter, it might get old after awhile.

This represents a third-world tax haven with a first-world lifestyle. If I had enough money to afford a cabin, I'd have enough money to shelter from taxes.
As to terrorism, a dingy bomb wouldn't dent this puppy. Besides, aside from the Aquila Laro (sp?), how many of the world's existing cruise liners have been attacked?

Where are the lifeboats?

"A normally deadly 100-foot wave will move the ship about one inch, according to Gooch"
These are the same people who tried to sell the Brooklyn Bridge.

This is just plain stupidity.

Sounds like a floating nightmare! Trapped on board with 17,000 families! There are times when just the one is enough!
