1.)Long after he had come to the point of having NO chance of winning, he was in Oklahoma saying that Bush would lose, and that he, Keyes, was the only one who could beat Gore in a debate. He said he would be back to say "I told you so." PhiKapMom has the newpaper articles from that incident, and she and another Oklahoma freeper heard him say this on the radio. I think this was petty.

This charge has been denied, and has not been documented. Individual 2nd and 3rd hand remarks are notoriously unreliable.

2.)Then there was his roundabout criticism of Laura Bush, discussed here a couple of weeks ago, in which he said he agreed with her comments, but it was such a shame she didn't discuss abortion in her ONE MINUTE SPEECH. Petty!

So here the point is that, while Keyes admired what Mrs. Bush said, and praised her for saying it, he was not, shall we say, 'slavishly' uncritical of her. Oh yes, how dare he have his own opinion.

I see. Eyewitnesses, newspaper accounts, and radio reports are all lies. You are saying that all of these people made up the same lie so that Keyes could be persecuted. Right.

Yes, his comment about Laura Bush was petty, in that she was making a one-minute speech about rights for Afghan women, who DO NOT BELIEVE IN ABORTION ANYWAY, and to expect her to say something about American abortion rates in that one-minute time frame WAS petty.

You are rapidly revealing your true character. People can judge for themselves.

I believe there is evidence to the contrary on that.

Well this is first hand information. I have a copy of the Keyes articles and Ole Okie and I heard him first hand on the radio. It was denied by the keyes staffers but we have documentation to the fact that was exactly what he said. Also called Bush -- Bush-Lite on the radio. Also said that Bush couldn't win in November because he didn't have the intelligence. That is firsthand!!!!!

Since you don't believe us the following comes from a Daily Oklahoman News article, 10 March 2000! I can fax anyone that wants a copy of this article!

Quoted from the article, 10 March 2000:

Republican front-runner George W. Bush will lose to Democrat Al Gore because Bush can't effectively articulate the Democratic Partyi's moral betrayal of the nation, GOP hopeful Alan Keyes said Thursday.

snip

Given the nation's properity and peace, "why should they elect Republicans to the White House?" he said.

Republicans stand a chance of winninng if voters go into the booth thinking of moral issues, Keyes said.

"G.W. Bush cannot make this case effectively," he said "...When it comes to dealing the issues of the moral crisis, he like many American politicians -- at a loss.

"So when he stands toe to toe with Al Gore on issues like abortion, he will come off looking second best because he doesn't know how to make the case properly and effectively -- and so we'll lose."

State Rep. Wayne Pettigrew, R-Edmond, asked Keyes who he would to have appointing the next three justices of the U.S. Supreme Court -- Bush or Gore?

Keyes said that was an academic question.

"The people who are deciding who's going to chose the next judges are folks who are deciding to put an ineffective, inarticulate, half-hearted indvidual into the naomination and send him out there," Keyes said.

"He's not going to win, and so he's not going to be appointing judges. Your deluding yourself."

Keyes said if Republiclans don't address the moral challenge, "we Republicans won't control the White House and therefore the whole issue of who he will appoint will be academic."

Keyes is on the primary ballot in Oklahoma on Tuesday, but he has not been the leader in any of the GOP primary races this year.

Some politicians get down because they take it as some rebuke against them if people don't vote for them, he said.

"If I'm presenting a message that makes sense and you go into the voting booth and vote for something elese, you haven't made a judgment against me; you've made a judgment against yourself and against America," Keyes said.

Skip to last paragraph:

Keyes said that if the GOP loses in November, he will be there "to say I told you so, because it's about time that Republicans wake up, stop acting like lemmings, and every four years going over the cliff of hard-hearted destruction." (end of quoting article)

The bold is mine! Now the keyes staffers can say my paper is lying too!
