There are a lot of plausible explanations for delay, but I'm with you on the value of timing; and not just for the next election cycle. I think there's enough to crush some and keep others at bay for years.
I'll give the benefit of the doubt and watch through the next election cycle. On the other hand, the decision by MJ Whitewash not to prosecute the Torch is very troubling.

It's obvious that our handlers have gotten to the point where they rely on the New York Times to spin their insanity.
The problem is that we've been educated by 8 years of Slick and as such don't swallow the gubment line as easily as before.
Some of us that is.

Bush could have dumped the Clinton left overs and gone after Clinton when he came into Office. Waiting is only going to raise the question WHY didn't he prosecute while he had the chance.

I believe all Presidents are connected at the throat. That's why they are so careful about handling knives, (knives is another name for prosecutors/blackmailers.)

Sounds like an issue that can be used against Reno by Jeb Bush in Florida.

I'm not saying anything, since I don't have to. Others, however, sure are saying something.
Seems like some others aren't saying anything!
I'm just flagging along here...

I have finally figured out why Janet Reno is running for governor of FL, when (IMHO) she has little chance of winning. It's the best and maybe only protection she has from jail.
As long as she is running for some political office, she can, with the media lapdogs agreeing in unison, claim that any attempts to go after her by Ashcroft or the Bush Administration are designed to "interfere" with the election and "rig it" in favor of Jeb. She believes that Ashcroft and Bush won't pursue her, and she is probably right.
If she wins the Dem primary (not a cinch), no one at DOJ will want to go after her until 2003. By that time, the defenses of "old news," "won't you ever let it go" and the like can and will be used. In addition, some of the investigatory trails will have gone cold. And of course, we can't forget about the "poor, elderly, Parkinson's-ravaged woman" defense.

"Well we dont have Janet Reno to kick around anymore, but that doesn't stop the Republicans from insisting that Ashcroft is still held hostage to the past incompetance."
Same folks that insist that a switch was flipped when Clinton and Mob took office from Bushdaddy and corrupted the FBI, CIA, DEA, NSA, INS, etc. with the wave of the witches wand.
They're unwilling to face the facts. The Fact is that all of these agencies answer to a higher power than the President. The President is just a Useful Fool. Jr. is proof of that.

And justice for none
(Bill O'Reilly) Excerpt:
Janet Reno hightailed it out of Washington without clearing up a single controversy. Now she rides around in her truck asking the people of Florida to elect her governor. Hey, good choice if you love fascism. Ms. Reno is the kind of public servant who makes decisions and feels no need to explain them. The Third Reich would have loved her.
The tragedy of the Justice Department is it is our fault. We Americans simply will not pay attention to the corruption of this very important part of our government even after 9-11. We allow the stonewalling, the political correctness and the incompetence.
And it's just a matter of time before we pay the price for our apathy again.
This doesn't address the subpoena issue that you link on post #7. President Bush used executive privilege to block release of the information that Dan Burton et al (Now Barney Frank joins him???). . .

"President Bush used executive privilege to block release of the information that Dan Burton et al (Now Barney Frank joins him???)." I confess, I do not get this. It seems so obviously wrong.

To: MeeknMing
Thanks for the heads up! When he originally threatened to use executive privilege I wondered why on thread - because IMHO, it can be easily defeated if there is probable cause of criminal conduct. (Nixon tapes for instance.) So I still wonder if the administration actually wants the congress to force the information out of them in court - so that, when they discover all the misconduct, the press and public cannot finger this administration as being "out to get" the Clintons and crew?
