Bin Laden: Attack on US to Stop Support for Israel

LONDON (Reuters) - Osama bin Laden (news - web sites), the world's most wanted man, said on a video broadcast by al-Jazeera satellite television on Wednesday that the September 11 suicide attacks were intended to stop U.S. support for Israel.

``Our terrorism against the United States is worthy of praise to deter the oppressor so that America stop its support for Israel, which is killing our children,'' the bearded, Saudi-born fugitive said.

He added that the tape was being issued to mark about three months since the attacks on New York and Washington and two months after the United States began its bombing of Afghan targets.

The remarks indicated the tape was recorded in early to mid December.

Looking tired but calm, bin Laden was dressed in a clean, camouflage-patterned combat jacket. He sat against a cloth or canvas screen, his Russian-designed submachinegun propped beside him. There was no indication where he was when he recorded the video.

you can say something negative about every ally we have from Great Britain to Australia and you're still considered an American. But disagree with Israel about one thing and you're automatically cast as an anti-Semitic, anti-American, terrorist loving stooge.

Excellent observation...there's a rule I like to use: you can determine the true rulers of a society (or any subdivision thereof) by asking who it is you aren't allowed to criticize.

That phrase doesn't take long to appropriate because it fits and it is true. That is bull. I have criticized Israeli policy on occasion, and no one has suggested that. I just did regarding preventing Arafat from going to Bethlehem. It is the content my dear that counts, and the context.

Well, aren't you one of the fortunate ones. I get screwed both by both sides which is usually why I avoid these threads. If I say something in support of Israel...I'm genocidal, blind and bigoted. If I say something critical of Israel...I'm genocidal, blind and bigoted. I've had enough of the foaming at the mouth freepmails to know what I've said is true. Just because YOU didn't have a negative experience doesn't mean it doesn't happen to others.

The "appropriate parties" involved have a historical record of pushing too far too soon (I cite Egypt, England, Spain, Eastern Europe, Germany), and that will spark a rebellion. Two decades from now, I can't wait to enjoy watching what will happen to the appropriate parties :)

There was some lady biographer of bin Laden on MSNBC a few months back who said bin Laden's father was so ticked off about Israel he wanted to turn his bulldozers into tanks. His father's been dead like 30 years so the notion that bin Laden's just recently gotten interested in that issue is probably a canard manufactured by parties with their own agenda.
