Yeah, billbears, I know how you view Supreme Court decisions. Those you agree with are valid and those you don't agree with are tainted. But Chase did Davis a favor and you know it. Had Davis been tried he would have been convicted. The government would have picked a jury that would have guaranteed that.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree with that view. However a trial would have brought unwanted attention to the actions of Chief Justice Chase, for surely Davis would have testified in his own defense, and the documentation that has been provided here many times on tax structure, would have shown that the actions of Chase not only helped to start the war, but to extend it as well
