R.I.P.

During the height of Big Country's 14.7 seconds of fame, Stuart Adamson said something to the effect that "all American music was crap."

In retort, Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats said "who does he think invented Rock and Roll - Angus MacPresley?"

Big Country was quite famous worldwide, even though they only had two hit singles in the US. They put out some DAMN good music, and deserved a lot more popularity than they ever got in this country. Rest in Peace, Stuart.

Actually, Big Country is one of those groups that's been churning out albums for a rather sizable cult following for years, even though the rest of the world had long forgotten they existed. Rather like Marillion.

Shame though. "In a Big Country" was just so ... EIGHTIES.

I remember that! It was quite the issue on MTV at the time. Of course, I sided with Brian Setzer and have disliked Big Country ever since. Not exactly my most profound political stance. But as a bonus, I still like Brian Setzer, and hadn't heard another peep from Big Country until now.

Brian Setzer couldn't hold a dim candle to the talent Stuart and his buddies possessed in their little finger. I submit proof in this short piece (and this is just the b-side song, yes a b-side song). Find an American that can play anything half this decent.... and remember this is from 1984.

Click "HERE" for an amazin short guitar piece by Big Country in 1984, b-side music at that
