Stanley Released from Jail; Charged with Violating an Unconstitutional Gun-Control Ordinance
(DENVER, CO) Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate, Rick Stanley, was released from Denver Police custody on Sunday, December 16, 2001, at approximately 3:30 PM, after being charged with violating a local gun-control ordinance. Stanley contends the law he is charged under violates his civil rights and he will be seeking a jury trial to have the ordinance declared unconstitutional. Second Amendment supporter Duncan Philp was also arrested and faces an identical charge.
Stanley and Philp were arrested by the Denver Police, Saturday, December 15, 2001, shortly after noon, upon performing a planned act of civil disobedience by openly carrying a loaded handgun in a holster upon their hip, during a Bill of Rights rally being held in Denver's Lincoln Park. Both Stanley and Philp, stated their actions were an attempt to exercise their constitutionally guaranteed rights under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Article II Section 13 of the Colorado Constitution. They are now facing one count each of unlawfully carrying a deadly weapon in violation of Denver's Revised Municipal Code, 38-117.5(b).
Paul Grant, a civil rights attorney who will be representing both men is optimistic about their chances in court. On Saturday Grant stated, "There's absolutely no way a judge should be able to uphold Denver's ordinance in light of the state constitution". Public support and attention would be an essential part of the case, said Grant who has argued cases on several different occasions before the Supreme Court. He urged all supporters to attend these men's court dates and to speak out publicly on this issue explaining that; "Jurors must realize how important this case is".
Mr. Stanley's next court date is Wednesday, January 30, 2002, 8:30 AM, Courtroom 151P, in the County Courts Building located at 1437 Bannock Street in Denver. Supporters are requested to pack the courtroom that morning.

Gee Mr. Stanley. How will we ever maintain our constitutionally mandated defense system without any money? Are the hard-working (sarcasm) people that you just removed from welfare going to pony-up and give of their own free will? How do we entirely phase out the IRS, but still maintain the armed forces in today's climate?
I think not. Please....keep it coming. Please. You are killing me.
Well, then, all this talk of "throwing it to the Dems" is unnecessary, isn't it? If he's so good it won't happen.
You fit the profile to a 'T'. - Does the constitution scare you somehow?
Huh? Put down the bong. Sheesh I don't call John Walker, Johhny Jihad for nothing, and I think that McCain is a RINO.
Wayne Allard, current Senator from Colorado, is not a RINO.
Get a grip on your mania.
But WHY do you call them that? They're violating principles, that's why. But wait: you just said that principles are unrealistic. Which is it?
There's no bong. With people like you around I don't need drugs to experience a fantasy world.
Won't!!! I'd be surprised if 2% of people in CO have ever heard of him, even after this little stunt.
In typical Libertarian fashion, Mr. Stanley doesn't stand a turd's chance among dung beetles. Any success in Mr. Stanley's campaign will be at the expense of Wayne Allard, who's a pretty good guy.
Mr. Stanley certainly won't be getting any votes from up Boulder way -- they'll all be voting for Tom Strickland, who among other things was one of Bill Clinton's US Attorneys, and a gun controller.
In a close race, Mr. Stanley ends up helping to elect the guy whose position against which he just went to jail. And so, as usual, the Libertarian works against the better, for the benefit of the worse.
He said that he'd levy a 15% tax on the first year, and drop it one-percent each year until it was at zero. Gee, if we added 15% to a n already existing state and local tax, and we get that 15% down to zero, tell exactly where he is drawing the rest of the money?
The LP couln't kick its own butt, but toke on...I mean talk on, man!
I do. It means that we are under distress. Properprotocol has always said that a military ship or base commader, along with the POTUS has the distiction of declaring it would be done.
Certainly, this guy has the right to do it, but it flies in the face of how we should treat the flag. He does it purely for political gain, and that disgusts me.
Try to stump me again.
Huh? Because John Walker is a traitor and McCain is a RINO.
So win those libertarian votes. Prove that your man is better. Should be easy, right?
He took a stand?
Using a few lines to point out that we were stupid enough to spend money on a writing utensil is taking a stand? You deserve to vote for Stanley. You seem to be a perfect match.
A stand????????
That was a stand??????
Please tell me where he took a stand.
All he did was point out one issue, forgetting the marvelous success, that we have been able to transfer to military technology.
You just don't think the 2nd Amendment is important enough to take the same kind of stand.
You just don't think the 2nd Amendment is important enough to take the same kind of stand.
Fine, whatever you want to think. I guess you have the principle that Tom Dashcle being senate majority leader is no big deal and are fine with that proposition.
Do innocent babies killed i the womb deserve to be heard? Do they deserve a chance to vote, or the RKBA? Where is he on that issue? What about where he stands on the rights of others to be heard?
Does he consider those rights, or are they not important? e says that the choiced for them to take a breath is the right of their mothers. That doesn't seem a reach for you? I thought that this was the "LIBERTARIAN" Party. You know, the only one that guarantees liberty.
Why a party can give mopre creedence to the right to buy and sell drugs than the right to life is beyond me.
Why a man can take a stand on NASA with a few comments, but not make any real stand on the defense of the US is beyond me.
Can we all say together, "Majority Leader Tom Daschle?"
Assuming there are any....
Prove that your man is better. Should be easy, right?
It's not difficult. Allard has a good record.
In reality I don't see the race being all that close, or Stanley's candidacy actually making a difference. The point is, Stanley's candidacy is either a pointless waste of his contributors' money, or actually counterproductive to his stated aims.
What about the unborn's right to life? How about their right to vote, or to run for election? Should they be guaranteed the right to keep and bear arms? I think we know this Libertarian's view, don't we? He's for everone's rights, as long as all they want is to get stoned, abort babies, and keep all of their money. That really is what Stanley is all about. What makes him different from the rest of the LP?
