Survey finds 10 partners before marriage 'normal'
The majority of young people think it is normal for a person to have at least 10 sexual partners before marriage.
A survey has also found that three in 10 believe it is acceptable for a girl to lose her virginity before the age of 15.
Research carried out by Brook, the youth sex advisory service, says there is a "cultural change" in young people's attitudes towards sex.
Some 64% of men and 54% of women agreed that it was acceptable for a person to sleep with more than 10 partners before getting married.
But the survey, which questioned people aged 17 to 25, also showed that they wanted more information about sex and contraception.
Men admitted to getting most of their knowledge about contraception from TV and magazines, while women learned the most from magazines and their mothers.
Half of all the young women surveyed said they wished that teachers had supplied them with more information about preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Brook chief executive Jan Barlow said: "Young people have an increasing number of sexual partners and they are saying that's OK.
"But at the same time they don't have the information and access to services that they need.
"Young people must seek out advice and information in order to make their choices and to understand how to protect themselves both against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases."
Yes. That reminds me of my HS girl friend. Her second husband was an Episcopal Priest and Rector of a church in Florida. Sometime last year, she caught him in bed with her best friend.
Don't get jealous.
I hear "boy toys" are the In Thing for older women of the new millennium.
What happened with the first husband?
Or else? Yeah, I know, hell to pay. Relations in modern America.
Made him scream that loud, huh?
Good girl.
IMO, it's not just sad, it's tragic. They are missing out on what God intended, in every sense of the word. God is in no way a "killjoy" who wants to take the fun out of life. He loves us so much that He wants us to have sex in the fullest sense, and that can only happen in a loving, committed relationship.
Our immoral society is destroying one of the most meaningful (and fun) things in life by encouraging sex without attachments. And the funny thing is, that many of these so called "liberated" people have disastrous sex lives, while us "cold fish" who waited for marriage are having the time of our lives!
Speak for youself.
Ambrose Bierce was right when he said that a hedonist pursues pleasure so hard that he often overtakes it.
My wife and I have been married 32 years now. We have had 3 children, all wonderful. Our two daughters died of neurological degeneration. My wife has Myasthenia Gravis, diabetes, and another complication. She was my first serious relationship and I was her first serious relationship. Our son got married and then had children, two delightful granddaughters and a delightful daughter-in-law. Some people his age were stunned that he reversed the order of the new norm (having children and getting married several years later - all too common now).
I told children taking confirmation that they could enjoy a wonderful romantic life if they waited for marriage. It is just as important for men as for women.
God established marriage through His Word. Most people scorn it. What do they hate? Responsibility. Self-denial. Serving another person. They miss the happiness of a life-long relationship, giving and receiving. I indulge my wife's hobby in buying clothes. She indulges my hobby in buying and writing books. I like to fix breakfast every morning and bring it to her. She fusses over my clothes.
I often listen to people talking about their pursuit of the Playboy lifestyle (and Hefner is bi-sexual!). I hear a lot of sadness, loneliness, and insecurity. I especially feel sad about women who think they must swap a live-in relationship for the faint hope of marriage and a family. That is a cruel bargain.
No, Christians are not the only people with morals, but foundational morality is based upon truth and truth is independent in its sphere ... irrespective or what societal morays may indicate. In other words ... it is not relative.
Like our unalienable rights, the moral foundation that defines their equitable exercise is not a function of man's thinking in my estimation. As the founders of this nation indicated regarding the unbalienable rights themselves ... it is endowed by the Creator.
Varying from it brooks and courts disaster IMHO. My faith and efforts in this reagrd are based on the faith of George Washington commetns when he said ...
No country on Earth ever had it more in its power to attain blessings. Much ti be regretted indeed would it be, were we to depart from the road which Providence has pointed us to, so plainly; I cannot believe it will ever come to pass. The Great Governor of the Universe has led us too long and too far to forsake us in the midst of it. We may, now and then, get bewildered; but I hope and trust that there is enough good sense and virtue left to recover the right path."
Or as John Adams put it:
"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other."- John Adams, Oct. 11, 1798 Address to the military
I believe many of our people have been "bewildered" regarding these fundamental values ... and if we continue down that path we will lose what Providence and the blood of many good men and women have purchased through pure lasciviousness ... but I also believe that there is enough virtue left to recover the right path.
Just my views.
Not in California. They never rust.
