Sorry, I can't agree with your assessment that the Bill of Rights is being "torn up."

Some liberties are being temporarily curtailed -- THAT I understand.

Are YOU personally affected yet, or assume to be?

I guess a few on this thread haven't heard that AG Ashcroft is planning, along with Mexico,to share responsibility of securing our common border.I heard this info on George Putnam's program Monday or Tuesday. The full details of the plan have not been released.Putnam seemed pleased, said that it was better and a step in the right direction.

"None."

Yeah, none that you know of. And IF one were a terrorist, where do you think you'd find the easiest point of entry for future "invasion"? The Canadian government's not exactly clamping down on Islamic activity and movements.

The Guard and Reserve have day jobs they need to get back to. If we're going to use the military more on a long-term basis, we're going to have to expand it, not exploit the Guard and Reserve as 'temps'.

Yeah, none that you know of.

I believe the question related to the 9-11 hijackers, not whatever terrorists you imagine there to be, lurking across the border, waiting to invade the US.

And IF one were a terrorist, where do you think you'd find the easiest point of entry for future "invasion"?

A direct flight from almost any part of the world straight into the US, which is the route most of the 9-11 hijackers took.

The Canadian government's not exactly clamping down on Islamic activity and movements.

How would you know? You've obviously made up your mind as to where terrorists originate, so I don't think you've bothered to keep up with anything happening in Canada.

Some quick math gives us (1) agent per (8) miles guarding Canada; (9) agents per (2) miles guarding Mexico.

So, for the security forces along the Canadian border just to equal those of the Mexican border, we'd need to add about 700 agents to Canada. Either Ashcroft needs to acknowledge that 9 agents per 2 miles (as in Mexico) is not enough agents for either border, or something of crisis proportions is wrong with the BP along Mexico.

Wouldn't want those still approximately 83% anglo cannucks running down here en masse, now would we?

I sure don't think increased border security is meant to to keep us out of each other's countries.
I was at a Canadian Government website and read a page that found it necessary to remind Canadians that The USA is a foreign country! I've never thought of America as a 'foreign' country. Only as a place south of where I am.
It annoys me that we need this extra security thanks to those (insert swear word here) terrorists that attacked us. ( I realize it was America that was attacked, but the first thing I said when I heard about it was, "Who attacked us? Why did they attack us?")

Here in Maine you can drive across from Canada. It's very rural but it can be done. The land is privately owned by logging companies. There are logging roads all over the place and at some point you can't tell when you are in Canada or the US.

So what if it's frozen. It's FLAT in a lot of places. Didn't need snow tires or chains the 1 1/2 years I lived up North in Saskatchewan. And, the population of Canada is about 30 million. Will go check for population of Mexico.
