****Please Help : Missing Teenager in Kansas****
Freeperette Lyrica | December 5th 2001 | Cool Guy

Posted on 12/05/2001 12:07:53 AM PST by Cool Guy

Teenage son of my friend is missing since 11/26/2001. He is 15 years old and is from Salina, Kansas. Before he disappeared, he told his friends that he was going to Topeka, Kansas. Because the boy is of an age where he can take care of himself, the PD has already told the parents that they have to do most of the leg work in this case. The parents are devastated and are looking into all possible sources for help. That is the reason for this post.

The flyer that is being circulated in her local area is posted below. It has a picture of the boy. I would appreciate if people living in and around that parts of the country, can print it out and post it in their neighborhood. The Mom of this boy, registered today and she goes by the FReeper name "Lyrica". You can ping her for more info here or via freeper mail.

I thank everyone for your help. If you do not have any information, please pass this information across to anyone who might be able to help. Thanks once again.

Thank you so much and God bless you. Even if/when he is found I fear this will become a repeat offense since he has discovered he can in fact stay on the streets at such a young age. I would like to keep his face and info up as many places as I can get it in KS. Thank you, Lyrica

Since I am so new to the board and can only reply I will begin by thanking Cool Guy for leading me to this site and providing so much help. Aqua and all others who are praying and helping by posting flyers, my husband and I can never thank you enough. Prayer is the most important thing. Our son is at a rebellious age. He is instilled with God/family/country values and seems to be striking back as he will not abide by the standards we demand and expect in our home. We do not turn our heads to his drug usage. He is not allowed to just roam. He has an age appropriate curfew. Decent grades and effort in school is required. Disrespect of parents and authority figures will not be tolerated. He seeks the company of kids with parents who really don't seem to give a rat's behind where their kids are and what they're doing. These parents ignore and will not return my calls, do not answer door or say they don't know him when they certainly do. The more I search, the more I discover a large group of American citizens who contribute to the decline of our country by aiding and abetting minors, turning their heads to their own children's activities, and basically just not caring by instilling no values and having the "aw give im a smoke, beer and a girly mag it ain't hurtin' nuthin'" attitude. These people's influence have led him to the conclusion that we are just too strict and oppressive compared to the Jerry Springer lifestyles of the company he seeks. This angers and frightens me. Sorry for the rant. Just wanted to introduce myself and thank you all from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely and God Bless, Lyrica

I understand your feelings on the moral decline of our society, but I am here to tell you that there is hope. There are still good Americans and you will find them here at FreeRepublic. Just read some of their comments on certain subjects here and it will warm your heart and give you renewed hope that you are not alone in trying to be virtuous parent to your son.
In time he will come to appreciate you. I'm very sorry for the pain that you are enduring. I and others here will continue to keep your family in our prayers. May God bless and comfort you.

Praying for your son's safe return and your sanity in the meantime. I understand what you say about appearing strict in relation to other parents during these times, amazing isn't it? Sorry you have to go thru this. All too common. *sigh*

Praying for God to send him help and surround him with protection and bring him home. I have forwarded your post to family in Wichita. From a Texas mother who raised two boys in this culture.

Prayers. I do hope you get in touch with your son again. He needs an education as to what can and will happen to a fifteen year old on the streets. I do know that there is little that can be done to keep him safe without his cooperation.

If there is a way to communicate with those that do see him, try to get the message to him that you are most concerned about his safety and he can come home any time he wishes. If you can get one person who sees him to act as an intermediary he will know you are concerned and are not gonna whup his behind on sight. Maybe then he will not be careless with his safety.

I know from experience it is a trying time for you right now, but your son is probably more mature than others his age since he believes he can fend for himself. My son came home 9 months after he left home. Our interdiary happened to be several people who would at least talk to us and relay our concern. My son now, 2 years after he left, plans to stay home and follow our rules (the same we had when he left) while he is in college. I believe through his 9 months of struggle, he realized the security and love of his parents was worth more to him than his rebellion.

Good luck, and I'm praying for you and your son. Get a support network, if you don't already- your sanity may be tested in these troubled times.

thanks for the update, cool guy. raising a child is a very tough job.
though you can't just shoo them out the door at 18, ready or not,
they may learn on the street what they refuse to learn at home.
i don't condone it, but it happens. i pray for this child's
safety, and put my faith in providence.

i have no doubt that the universe is unfolding exactly as it should,
and reality is a strict teacher. may the loving Lord watch over this family.
