I would think that this would be a world war if you see fighting or alliances spanning all continents except for Antarctica.

Looks like we're getting there, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, North America. South America is pretty much all that's left to join the fun.

A world war is a protracted war with two or more major players on each side.
