** Iraq officially threatens Israel if U.S. attacks **

NICOSIA — For the first time, Iraq has specifically threatened Israel with retaliation for any U.S.-led campaign against the regime of President Saddam Hussein.

A senior Iraqi diplomat said Saddam has seven million combatants called the Quds Army. The diplomat said Iraq would "swallow Israel up" if his country is attacked.

"The Palestinian cause and liberation of Jerusalem as well as campaign against Israel is a fundamental issue for Iraq, just like many other Islamic states," Iraqi charge d'affaires in Teheran Abdul Sattar Izzeddin Rawi said. The warning came hours after Iraqi President Saddam Hussein convened his defense chiefs on late Sunday. The Iraqi News Agency said the meeting focused on Iraqi preparations for any U.S.-led war against Baghdad.

Last week, Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri suggested that Iraq would target Israel. But Sabri did not mention Israel by name. On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Tareq Aziz said Iraq is prepared for a ground war should the United States attack but did not threaten Israel.

At the same time, Rawi told the official Iranian news agency IRNA that Saddam has sent three messages to the United States and its European allies. The messages warned against any attack on Baghdad.

The diplomat said Kurds in northern Iraq would suffer greatly if they cooperate in any U.S.-led effort to topple Saddam. For a decade, the Kurds have maintained self-rule in the north.

Rawi warned that the United States would not achieve anything in an attack on Iraq. He reiterated Iraq's refusal to allow the return of United Nations weapons inspectors in his country.

Thats the beauty of flattops, moveable airfields almost anywhere in the world!

Be afraid.
Be very afraid...

We have seen nuts strap exposives around their bodies.
We have seen Islamic madmen use airplanes as Murder Weapons.

Muslim Kamikazes are in the wings. It's only a matter of when we get to see them.

Well worth spotlighting:

the clinton conspiracy of criminals doesn't prove fatal!"

Shouldn't that be:

Muslim Kamikazes with wings.

I'm not sure what the benchmark is either, or if the press sets the standard.

Whatever the case, I'm sure some Freeper will bring us both up to speed..

Re:#48
China hasn't made any requests for us to lay off Iraq, but Russia has. But I agree,...China will take advantage of us given the opportunity.

Re:#49
True, but during Desert Storm we flew thousands of sorties a day. As things stand now, we don't have that ability.

Lets see, six carrier air wings, Bombers from Diago Garcia, Turkey. I also doubt that Jordan is going to be to happy to have the Iraq army marching over their land. Don't forget that Israel has a fine Airforce and runways a plenty.

I don't think this will be a problem.

If they send their army west, they wont have much to come back to, that is if there are any to come back.

I also believe that the King of Jordan might cut down the Iraq army a bit just for fun. He is a qualified Cobra pilot.

Ain't that the truth (let's be careful, we're revealing our age) I remember those silly drills we had at school.

These suicidal Islamics make the Russians look like pussycats.

If Israel joins the frey along side America, that will give Saddam/Usama exactly what they wanted.

The question is, will Syria/Iran/Egypt stay passive...

We didn't do the "Duck and Cover" bit in the my school, but I have seen the old films of it. Now that's entertainment! By the 70's I think they figured out that a 20 mega-ton event isn't something that you can hide from under your school desk.

I know, but the flattops are very limited.

We have the ability to re-fuel in the air, but not re-arm.

We have to have a base in both Turkey, and Kuwait to pull this off.

Where I'm from this is called a 'career limiting move' buddy.

He might topple like the Taliban once the heat is turned up, but I doubt it.

Iraqis celebrate everytime Saddam opens another one of his billion dollar castles, while they go hungry. That is blind loyalty, or ultimate stupidity.

I think the only way China could benefit would be to blow it up.

Logistically, they can't defend it. Can they ?
