I know you probably won't have time to read this, but I thank you for this post. I haven't had much time for FR in the last few weeks, and would have freaked if I'd seen news of the judgement before seeing this. Thanks for saving me all that anguish!

I have always been (vicariously) fascinated by the AFers. What scratches them so? I mean, is the bug too large or does it have too many legs? If I had this particularly malady, I'd opt for a permanent enema and be done with it.

What keeps them coming back for more?

Is it the strength of subordination? Are they the beaten husbands slashing themselves before the mirror? Or is it a more simple pleasure?

I just don't get it.

Well, we carry on. There is not a day, not a post, that I do not become a more informed citizen and a braver, more proud American.

Our society is based upon laws,

Where in the 2nd amendment does it say there can be twenty-thousand gun laws? Not implying anything other than what is stated.

Thanks for the ping, but something tells me Jim won't be running FR from the poorhouse anytime soon. (VBG)

I *do* however admire the contingency planning he's done (#255) and his determination that these slime will NEVER shut him down, or stop him from providing a forum that allows the questions/criticism that it does, in search of the truth.

Congratulations to JimRob, BadJoe and all who helped during this fundraiser. Spectacular job by all involved. As I recall, it *is* the shortest one in the history of FR, is it not?

I still believe in the system.

Which system? ...The one the founders created or the one that we've had for last 100 years -- everybody encouraged to compromise their honest principle by voting for the lesser of two evils.

As an aside, this case is a good example of why the "inalienable rights" approach to government, as proposed by many libertarians here, is flawed.

Aside from government and criminals, everybody else does business of their own free will choice. When it comes to government and criminals they do "business" by initiation of force, fraud and coercion. Not all government operates that way. Just 90% of it.

I wonder about the Libertarian premise. Assuming people on this forum that are afraid of the vices that the Libertarian premise has a hands-off position on, and would stand firm on individual rights and especially 2nd Amendment -- no-infringement whatsoever -- consider these points under the Libertarian premise:

1. How much would the vices infiltrate citizens lives and society? Probably not much more than they have already. But for examples sake, let's say vice doubled.  How much violent crime would there be? How dangerous would it be for citizens and society? How bad would that be compared to number 2 below.

2. Without the Libertarian premise, how far will government infiltrate to nullify the 2nd Amendment? All the way to gun confiscation. How much violent crime would there be? How dangerous would it be for citizens and society?

I just hope it doesn't come to that.... there are issues of free speech and fair use that go well beyond Free Republic. I've been subjected to several utterly frivolous lawsuits, and they are brutal, even if you prevail eventually.

And don't even get me started on my "all judges need more accountability" rant....

Sorry to hear about your personal run ins on this topic. I am sure it will not come to that, and Jim was posting the worst case scenario.

Cool Guy, I meant to thank you for pinging me to this thread last night. I might've missed it otherwise, and I'm glad I didn't.

"I can still operate this thing from the poor house, or even from a jail cell if I have to"

I think that you would not be lonely for if something like that ever happened there would be such an uprising of Freepers that would join you California may tilt to the left (even more) and have a permanent list towards Japan.

Then we can all play Acey Ducey till the wee hours of the morning then Spades for the rest of the day
