Regarding AT&T from a former AT&T perspective -- everybody views Big T as we call it, as "Deep Pockets", people go after their money all the time. Excite screwed up -- their problems are their own making. AT&T shouldn't bail out Exite by raising their offer. Big T already invested hundred of millions into the business. -- That would be akin to asking people to buy out Enron for 8 billion just so it could get away with all the fraud they perpetrated ---- Last comment, THANKS a MILLION for running this thread.!!!

They shouldn't do so out of the "goodness of their hearts". However, thanks to Lazamataz's "Darkness Map" (Thanks, Laz!), it's becoming clear that AT&T has made a unilateral decision to cut off their customers.
It's possible that this is a short-term outage while they reconfigure their system. If so, they handled their customer relations poorly, since they assured us that this would not happen.
However, if they have decided to "play chicken" with Excite, at the expense of their customers, they're going to lose alot of those customers, including me. If I find out that this is the case, I will never do business with AT&T again.
... ahem ... you are the old Craig O. McCaw Cellular company ... no one 'separated' from anyone ...
McCaw Cellular (and all McCaw's cellular markets) was ACQUIRED by AT&T about the 1995/1996 time frame and re-named "AT&T Wireless Services".
I was on-board during that time ... got the AT&T welcoming/intro video tape to prove it ...
