I just got an automated phone call from AT&T telling me that someone would contact me within a week to let me know when service would be restored... I don't see any reconfiguring the modem going on here!

11/30/2001 AT&T Statement Regarding Excite@Home's Chapter 11 Bankruptcy filing

Judge Thomas E. Carlson of U.S. bankruptcy court today canceled the Master Distribution Agreements between the At Home Corporation and the cable companies to which it provides high-speed Internet service, including AT&T. AT&T has not been told whether or not the At Home Corporation intends to shut down its service. However, AT&T representatives are scheduled to meet with executives of At Home to discuss the matter. AT&T is prepared to take appropriate steps to protect service to its customers, including, if necessary, moving its customers to a new high-speed Internet network immediately.

The company said that individual customers could be moved to the new network in one to 14 days if necessary. The company will automatically issue credits to all customers who experience an interruption of service at the rate of two days free service for every day of interruption.

The company noted that former MediaOne customers, who are served by the AT&T Broadband network are not affected by today's action. Nor are customers of AT&T Broadband's video or telephony services.

at AT&T Wireless -- hey, we are a separate company, we separated from the mothership!)

... ahem ... you are the old Craig O. McCaw Cellular company ... no one 'separated' from anyone ...

McCaw Cellular (and all McCaw's cellular markets) was ACQUIRED by AT&T about the 1995/1996 time frame and re-named "AT&T Wireless Services".

I was on-board during that time ... got the AT&T welcoming/intro video tape to prove it ...

In Dallas. Just received a phone call from AT&T at 5:28p.m. Saturday. Said the service might be out for up to a week as they were changing us over to their high speed internet connection.

AT&T better not ever come to my door or call my house. I won't have them. I wouldn't put it past them and their self-serving interests to be taaking the opportunity to give its other customers the shaft. I would not recommend any AT&T service to anyone.

SBC remodeled a brand new office in this area and moved their staff from the office they were sharing with Anixter (Anixter sold their networking devision to Ameritech which was then bought by SBC). 9 months later they closed the office and left for the eastern part of the state. They did this in part because they could not obtain a CLEC presence in this area.

Never got a letter from them explaining why. The SBC salesman told me. Nothing from anywhere/anyone else in SBC.

We blacklisted SBC and the place I am currently assigned to work does no business/will do no business with them. They called a couple of months? ago and I just laughed out loud and said please do not call here again, we will do no business with a firm that jobs customers like SBC.

The best way to show displeasure with a company that jerks customers around is to spread that experience via word of mouth. It eventually does work.

The oldest is a 6020 Minivac from 1963

Did you need an HP 524D to do any alignment or setup on that Minivac?

(An HP 524D is a fully vacuum-tubed digital counter/timer with a 12" fan in the back that could be used to heat a small room.)

actually, switching the @home to the AT&T system took less than five minutes. It is pretty much automatic for most all customers.

As far as I can determine, nobody is out service, just need to change the settings in their computer/router/ modem setup to reflect the changes to xxx@attbi.com and so on down the line... for dhcp settings and so on... all is available at the support site.

static ISP is gone, and the download speed is allegedly "fixed" at 1.5 m/sec... instead of the free for all of .5-5 or so.

This IS however bad news in that excite will NOT be paid by ATT for the services and equipment they have been provideing att with... which is what AT and T allegedly has done, to drive them into bankruptcy and gain control over their very popular service... the @home network.

It is akin to Bill Gates slowly buying up stock in apple and then manipulating the market and suppliers to drive them out of business, to gain control of their market share as well... and then ending the entire OS system that mac users enjoy using, to substitute MS windows... (not that bill would do such a thing).

Big business has become very adept at behaving like an illegal monopoly, while managing to avoid the technical classification in legal proceedings. Hence we have all of the evils of illegal, monopolistic behaviors (like the "anti napster" ruling which ENDED virtually ALL internet streaming broadcasts like fox, skye news and live radio, for the most part), being used to bring about control over the freedom of the internet and human communications...

Maybe the rioters in SEATTLE last year were right after all... the power of the military-industrial complex is systematically crushing all alternatives to its tyranny... or not... heh heh...

Breaking up the bell system did NOTHING to stop their monopolistic behavioral tendencies. Big business and Big government is our new God.

Hi tech IS being systematically dismantled by "the powers that be," because it got too big, and threatened too many of the governmental, religious, political and financial establishment centers of the world. Seems like we are increasingly headed towards massive CENTRALIZATION of world business, governance and religious controls... in our not too distant future.

This is but one more step... on an unpleasant journey.

... first job I worked at had a 555 "Dual-beam" scope on hand (meaning *two* separate cathodes *and* hence two beams as opposed to to simply switching the vertical channel and creating a "Dual Trace" scope) ...

2nd job - we had a few old 547's, some 453/454 series portables - and a LOT of new 465's and 475's (besides some of the 7000 series 'modular' stuff) ...

Yes, we have it. We understand that if service goes down, it will only be for a couple of days. I would prefer that it not go down at all.
