DITC Commentary: Ever wonder where all those "seed faith" dontations are going? Whose getting rich again? Remind me. It thought it was those people who sent in their seed faith donations who were going to get a "100 fold increase" and that they would be the ones buying luxury homes. What a shock to find out it doesn't work out that way! Duh!!!!
Televangelists JAN and PAUL CROUCH of the Costa Mesa-based Trinity Broadcasting Network have purchased a Newport Beach house for close to $5 million, Orange County Realtors say.
Millions of mostly poor people tuned in each week to hear the pleaful sermon from the flamboyant Reverend Ike, who drove flashy Cadillacs and stood at the pulpit dripping in gold chains and diamond rings.
No, this wasn't a sitcom, this show was a 'serious' Sunday morning religious show from the early Seventies.
Reverend Ike was one of the first television evangelists who shamelessly pandered for cash and was openly proud of what he spent it on - sparkling jewelry, new cars and beautiful women.
The good reverend toned it down a bit in the late Seventies amid criticism that he was too much of a show-off, but he always defended himself by saying there was nothing wrong with a prosperous man of God. After all, as Reverend Ike himself was quick to say, "The LACK of money is the root of all evil." Amen, brother!
This fellow motivates his huge affluent appearing audiences not only to give but to get - both monetarily and spiritually - and both he and they all appear to have a great time doing it.
Rev. Ike's race is not relevant per se. Just trying to remind people who he is (was?). That's why I put it in parentheses. The only reason I remember him anyway is that I went to a predominantly black high school in Newark, NJ in the 70s (I am "white") and Reverend Ike was the butt of many jokes and impersonations by my black classmates who obviously were not impressed with his Rolls Royces, flashy suits and velvet thrones.
Sounds like a whorehouse...
FOTFLMAO!!!!
Isn't she ludicrous? And so are the people who support her. As W.C. Fields said, "The good lord wouldn't have made them sheep if he hadn't wanted them shorn."
If Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton REALLY want to make an impact in their community then they need to insist that BET NOT accept programming from Tilton.
Tilton is not about the being of a minister for the One True God ... but instead about gaining for himself.
Jesus overthrew the tables in the temple. Tables used by greedy tax collectors. I can fit the same lesson into this scandal by the TBN crowd...but add even more. They await great judgement..if not on earth then most certainly in the afterlife.

Bingo! and bump!
We had our dentist put sealants on our daughter's molars. No cavities. Braces, yes. But no cavities.
I agree - just like I agree with a previous comment that Mr Swindoll's earnings are legit and proper. But take a look at the posts (114, 151) highlighting these people's statements. Scrutinizing God's ministers is the only way to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Because just maybe, *someone's* figured-out that Religion (God et al) & institutionalized white guilt combine *nicely* to make an elixir?
A powerful concoction once consumed by the gullible & ignorant make resisting creeps like this one especially hard to do, if not altogether impossible to ignore??
Particularly for many, many mainly white people?
Do ya think???
...why, what do you think?
He took a week and drove my dead grandson south in the church van last spring...after spending many hours with my son and his wife...and planning the arrangement because they were in shock....he did a service up here and a service down there ..then drove home to do the sunday service here.....that was in may.....
On wed last week, the day before thanksgiving a young husband and father from our church was killed in his home town...a 6 hour drive....my pastor left his family and drove there to be with the wife...he then came home collected his family and returned there to do a service for the family there...He will do a service for him here next week....
He does hospital visits and sick visits weekly as well as nursing homes,he also is present when our babies are born or surgery preformed....often those he sees are not members..they are aunts or cousins or friends of people that attend our church
He counsels families ,and the engaged ......all of that is ontop of the planning of the coming holiday services...and weekly sermons
for all of this he receives the princely sum of $25,000 .....by BTW he has 5 young daughters...
I invite you to spend a day with your pastor.....and then tell me he is overpaid...
