Hey, come on. Troy State, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Temple . . . Miami had one tough schedule. And I hear next year they're going to play the Greater Toledo YMCA College of Toaster Repair.

I think the Rose Bowl should opt out of the BCS as the Cotton Bowl apparently has done. Bowl organizers admit publicly that most West Coast teams are not selected for the premier southeastern US bowls because their fan base will not normally travel that far for a game. In addition, fans from the east and midwest have much more incentive to get away in the winter for a game in Florida than does a fan from California. The Rose Bowl is the only premier west coast bowl, so declining the BCS would allow them to reserve a spot for the best West Coast team (U of Ore this year).

Schedules are generally made years in advance. The year that NC was added to Texas' schedule, they were top 10. Unfortunately they fell off.But I concede that Texas had an easy path this year, but year in year out, Texas plays a far tougher schedule than Florida, since both conferences are about equal.

You are arguing a tough schedule because you played Marshall! Hahaha. Overrated, who did they beat to get their ranking? Every year there are a couple of teams the media decides to herald from low-level conferences, for stories about underdogs and how "unfair" it is that the big schools and conferences get all the attention. Marshall, Tulane, Louisville, BYU, and when they eventually do play a Top 20 team, they usually lose. And let me know when Florida plays AT a Marshall or equivalent. Last year, Texas traveled to Stanford. Florida stayed home. Again. Must take a lot of guts.

Yeah Texas lost to the best team they played, the defending nat'l champs, undefeated and number 1 at the time, on a neutral field. Florida lost to #22/25(i.e. nobody) Auburn. Yes it rained and was windy, but IIRC Auburn had to play in the same conditions. Must be tough for Florida to deal with rain and wind, since that never happens in the desert-like SWAMP.

So they ran up the score, Texas had some big wins too, but Mack likes to pull in the reigns near the end. That's another reason people don't like Florida teams, they are always arguing how good they are based on how they beat nobody U. at home by a large margin. Whoop up on a Washington, and I'm impressed. Lousiana-Monroe at the Swamp? No.

The school and the coach control who gets on the schedule, so yes its right to hold teams like Florida and Virginia Tech accountable. Sure there are a myriad of factors in the decisions, but it didn't stop most of the schools in the country from scheduling quality non-conference opponents. Somehow Miami, Tennessee, Michigan, Washington, UCLA, Texas, FSU, etc. were able to, and they all have the dominant programs that might prove intimidating, so why can't Florida? I hear more excuses and whining than the Clinton administration(though to be honest, some of Spurrier's directness is refreshing, I got a kick out of "Free Shoes University" and "You can't spell Citrus Bowl without U T"). Amen to your FSU points, but UF rides the coattails of media favoritism towards Florida schools. Just watch the polls every year. The only reason it wasn't replicated this year was that the Big 12 had 3 Top 10 teams and the Nat'l Champ, AND FSU and UF lost early.

Even more embarrassing is that two of the computer polls STILL rate Nebraska #2 after Friday's debacle. After reading Richard Billingsley's website, I'm sure Nebraska would still be #2 in his rankings if Colorado had beaten them 62-0. This proves how absolutely worthless the computer geeks are. They should be scrubbed from the BCS formula.

Yes, BYU would fill the Rose Bowl. Heck(strong BYU commentary) if they played in Tonga, Brazil, or Mexico BYU would fill it! Ducks or Beavers good teams, both of them.

True, U of Ore has, or probably will be selected for the Fiesta Bowl, one of the BCS bowls. Distance from Eugene, OR: 1230 miles. However, Stanford at #12 in the AP poll and #10 in the BCS has been relegated to the minor Seattle Bowl. An organizor of one of the major bowls was quoted in the newspaper that they were not selecting Stanford for his bowl because "their fans don't travel well" (translated: money). Don't get me wrong, it is OK to set the matchups based on the best draw. But let's not pretend that we're getting the best teams in the most important bowls.

Florida gets a chance for revenge, since their only loss was to Auburn....however, Tenn always has the potential for an upset.......Florida/Miami for the Nat championship, as well a intra-state bragging rights..will be an awesome game....funny that it happens at the other end of the country...

FSU played just a couple of years ago in a kickoff classic in NJ against A&M.

Colorado is #7 with 2 losses, take away either one and their in the hunt. So my point is valid. OBTW, you could still have a Nebraska-Colorado rematch in the Rose(but unlikely, Miami loss to VT, TN beats FL then loses SEC champ, Oregon loses instate rivalry, then all it depends on how the coaches vote Colorado or Miami higher).

And there is no law that says those other 2 UF non-conference games have to be at home. UF chose to do that, so they can live with the criticism. My "too dim" shows that the home years for the FSU game would allow for 6 home and a road game, perhaps you should recheck your figures. Good for adding Miami NEXT YEAR, and next year I'll lay off their weak non-conference argument(like I've started to back off criticizing Nebraska's since they upgraded). Geographic still stands, nothing to stop FL from a home and home series with a Big 10, Big 12, or Pac 10 team.

And to the best football is in the South argument, that's simply your opinion and debated by Big 12 and Pac 10 fans. How would anyone know, since southern teams rarely play outside the region(pigskin incest), even for the bowl games? But why risk losing and bursting the media myths you guys depend on? Its a racket, start highly ranked, so then your one loss won't hurt as much as one loss to a team from another conference and region. Only it almost didn't work this year. But anyway, I have to agree with the person trashing those computer rankings that have Nebraska #2. It all goes to show that all this is a giant joke equivalent to hanging chads, nothing short of a playoff of at least 16 teams will do.

Florida has always been somewhat fraudelent, when's the last time in the regular season that they played a good team outside of conference or the state of Florida? Friend forgive me, but that is one of the most ignorant statments that I have read lately. What does it matter, the SEC is and has been one of the toughest confrences in the country and the state of Florida is the bomb when it comes to college football, like it or not, there it is. Hey John. Take a minute and call the Tenn Athletic director today. We still have 3 open dates for Games next year. Seems no one in there right mind has the testicular fortitute to play Nebraska. Every team treats us like we are there bowl game. They are afraid to play us because a loss ends most teams hopes of a bowl bid. GO HUSKERS
