November 23, 2001 -- The twin mysteries of how two women - one a hard-working Manhattan hospital clerk, the other a frail Connecticut retiree - contracted inhalation anthrax have raised the specter of the saboteur delivering the lethal doses in person, instead of by mail.

If he took Cipro for that long he'd be dead by now. This theory that it was hand-delivered has to me the most stupid thing released by the authorities.

I'll have to agree with you on this. Completely.

I agree that this terrorist is delivering the dose in some form. Apparently he wants to increase the death rate but still leave no evidence.

Kleenex, flowers, perfume, hair spray, even hand lotion could be suspect because the evidence would be washed away or discarded by the time symptoms appeared.

Notice that both women lived alone so no one would see him if he posed as a salesman and rang their doorbell. Another possibility could be something as simple as a male shopper wandering in a store. Picks up a package of meat, puts in basket, contaminates it with a vial of anthrax. Then he approaches a woman saying he was getting this but now thought maybe it might be bad meat, would she give an opinion? Of course, she would smell it, say no - appears ok and leave. He purchases the product and promptly destroys it destroying the evidence.

I think we may have an anthrax serial killer on our hands, just killing because he likes to and can get away with it. I have heard that the FBI believes that the most sophisticated serial killers never get caught. If this guy is "smart" enough to make and deploy anthrax without killing himself, then he could be very hard to catch.

The FBI is worse then the keystone cops. Total B.S. They are covering their own butts is what they're doing.

Come on everyone let's stop these silly theories and speculation.

Where have all these anthrax spores been floating around?
In countless post offices and the mail.

Somehow, somewhere, the two women got in contact with a piece of infected mail,
perhaps at the hairdresser's, as someone suggested, or a grocery store.

And a 94 year old woman with low resistance probably could be infected with just a few spores
from a magazine that just slightly touched another infected envelope.

All this speculation is interesting, and some here are very good at it. But, this is like playing "Clue" with half the cards missing. There's no way the FBI has revealed even half of what they know. Also, what they have released is likely to include a fair amount of deliberate misinformation.

I agree.

The simplest explanation is that both women got mail that passed through one of the affected post offices or perhaps one of the affected government offices and, as a result, were exposed due to cross contamination. And, unfortunately, there are going to be some people in any given population who are more susceptible to infection than others ... just as there are some who could probably sit in a room full of the spores and never come down with anything.

This is all a distraction from focusing on the FIRST case where the person who died lived near some the hijackers and whose wife apparently had even closer contact with them. That case is why all this talk of domestic terrorism and serial murderers is not to be believed.

Maybe the first case was to point the investigation TO the terrorists rather than the skinhead here using the attack as a cover for his terrorist activity. Those so intent on preventing others from investigating possible home grown terrorism may also be trying to prevent the spotlight uncovering the fact that these radical elements in the U.S. are INDEED terrorists and will be treated as terrorists meaning that the laws covering terrorism will apply to the one doing the anthrax attacks.

Maybe the first case was to point the investigation TO the terrorists rather than the skinhead here using the attack as a cover for his terrorist activity.

But the first case was announced BEFORE it was publically known that the hijackers had been close to or even in contact with the victim and his wife. That means the "skinhead" had to have known about the hijacking BEFORE it happened which means he must be part of the group.

Oh there may be copycats in the US but make no mistake ... the first case is much too coincidentally linked to the FOREIGN terrorists to be anything other than linked to the FOREIGN terrorists. And if that is the case, then Occam's razor suggests that most of the other cases were too ... especially since the letters came from an area in New Jersey where we KNOW that many of the FOREIGN terrorists were prior to the WTC attack.

More likely all this talk by the Government of it being a domestic terrorist is meant to keep people from focusing on the real source (IRAQ?) because THEN the government would have to do something about it. Or perhaps it is to keep Iraq off balance so that when something is done about it, it will come more as a surprise to Iraq?

I'd be checking out that nation-wide mailing the Post Office did right after the Anthrax attacks in D.C. for cross-contamination.

We still have our USPS post card in a plastic baggie (I'm a former NBC MOS in the USArmy).
