2002 Senate Elections - 34 Elections Tabulated
11-21-01 | HighWheeler

34 Senators will be up for election in 2002

It's time to start planning strategy.

Review the following table of all 34 of the 2002 Senate Races. Of the 34 races, several Dem Seats have a potential to be flipped to Republican (shown in green rows), a couple of Repub seats have a potential to be flipped to Dem. (shown in yellow rows) These flips are based on the some assumptions:

- Using only the 2000 Prez election results to indicate vulnerability, the green rows indicate a potential flip to Republican, The yellow indicate potential flip to DemocRAT. this assumes that Geo Bush will participate in the 2002 election campaigns and that he has coattails a year from now.
- The races in light blue are where the presidential election difference was under 5% regardless of presidential race outcome.
- The governor column is added as a reference, to indicate possible push or pull from the state's governor.
- The "Other Senator" column is added to show push or pull from the state's other senator.

There is a strong possibility that the GOP could win several key races, South Dakota being one, and turn the Senate over to the GOP with a 3 Senator margin.

Tennessee here. Thompson is running, despite all of the talk. He announced this within the last 2 weeks.

I have no idea, but I don't trust ANY state in New England to elect a Republican. The ones they do have are so liberal and it still doesn't matter.

Think about all the Bush nominees that Daschle is blocking... something like 2/3 of judical nominations are being blocked, and of course Bush is too nice of a politican to do recess appointments.

Even if they are all RINOs in the New England States, we can use their Senate Leadership vote to put in a Repub for the leader of the Senate. Every little bit helps keep us from going so fast down the throat of the communist monster.

Maine is such a pretty state, too. I wonder, where do all the liberal parasite Democrats come from?

LH - From Mass, NY, NJ to name the top 3
Maine still has the best welfare system thanks to Anus King and company, last election voters passed all the reforemdem questions which without a major tax increase, makes the State insolvent... and we are already the #1 taxed state.

Getting rid of Tim Johnson in SD should be a piece of cake, except how in hell can these people vote so heavily for Bush and still send to Democraps to the Senate? I hope they have a good candidate in the Repub corner.

Congressman John Thune...a very attractive candidate indeed.

Regards...EV

Collins and Smith are particularly vulnerable

Smith is vulnerable, but I read where Sununu (R) is significantly ahead of both Smith and the likely DemonRAT challenger.

I have no idea about Collins.

Tennessee's Thompson will win by 25% or more, bank on it. Incredibly popular Senator.

Conservatives owe Bob Smith their support.

He has been THE stalwart for our principles---many times the only one with the guts to stand all the way for the GOP platform...(THE statement of the principles of the grassroots activists).

John Sununu, Jr. may be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but it was BOB SMITH STANDING ALONE with the Gonzalez family at the gates of the airbase where the Dem kidnappers were holding their present for their fellow communist Fidel.

FReepers love to rail on cynical, self-serving politicians whose only concerns are poll numbers and campaign $$, as they should. But then some of y'all, when you have one who doesn't play that game, are ready to abandon him, (based on biased polling done early by Dem activist pollsters who are hot to destroy the most conservative member of the US Senate---paid for by RINOs who also hate conservatives).

No wonder RINOs think conservatives are a joke.

Or maybe some of you aren't as conservative as you would like the rest of us to think.

As for me, I will support the champion for the right of unborn babes to live, and of our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, Senator Bob Smith of New Hampshire.

Tom Harkin (IA) is in for the race of his life. Congressman Greg Ganske is in a primary race with a fella named Sailer. Sailer, an ex marine, is a true conservative, but unknown. It will be a tough primary, because it's the true conservatives who go to the polls in the primary. I expect that primary to be close.

The Republican Party in Iowa is fired up and ready to WORK. Watch this one, it should be fun!

I have a relative who just moved to North Dakota from PA. He spends a lot of time in SD. As a staunch conservative, he began to ask that very question - how can you elect Daschle in such a conservative state? Easy answer: he delivers, particularly on matters involving agriculture/water/land, etc. They told him the average income is about $25,000 and the government subsidies are important to their survival. BUT, they are very socially conservative. They put up with Daschle's liberal support for social issues because of the financial issues. He says it's a very practical decision, not made blindly, and that very few are devoted to Daschle the man.

Though I live in another state, I send financial support to candidates I like. Smith was on my list UNTIL he pulled that absolutely ludicrous stunt of leaving the Republican party. In spite of his conservative opinions on social issues, that puts him in the Jeffords category. He was invited on all the talk shows to trash Republicans, and he made his complaints clear. After he 'returned to the fold', he hasn't been asked back. That should tell him something.

Additionally, Smith is a terrible speaker. Sununu (father and son) are very bright (maybe too intelligent, it makes them very blunt) and articulate. Sununu is certainly conservative, and we need some new, younger conservatives to combat the growing number of young Democrats all over TV.

What are Bob's chances there in NH? I agree on the points you make, but if the New England states are so heavily liberal, he has an uphill battle.

I hope he wins.

Susan Collins is a long-time friend of the Bush family. I think she will get GWB's active support (as well as that of BarBar).

Great news! It would help if FReepers organized and coordinated to target Harkin where ever he goes and make him answer the tough questions. Keep the pressure on the guy and he will be rattled, and knocking him off his game, even if only a little bit.

The Repub candidate will also become emboldened knowing he is backed by vocal supporters who are also running interference against his opponent.

What a mess. SD voters stand there taking handouts from the devil in exchange for their dignity and soul. Very sad. The Repub has an uphill battle with that attitude. They need a dose of thinking American first.

I'm a bit worried about Bush giving support to other Repubs. He didn't give any repub support in the two Governor races 2 weeks ago.
