Yeah, I know he's a lib, but can you imagine Hillary! being asked a question like that, and giving a believable answer?

I can't imagine Hilary giving a believable answer about anything.

Sticky Fingers is in the magic zone; it may be perfect.

Strange, strange skies . .

I disagree on Sprinsteen...didn't he do a free concert for that Cop Killer Mumia?

And if you think Born In the USA is a patriotic song...read the lyrics!

Are the Good Times Really Over for Good ?

I wish a buck was still silver, and it was back when the country was

strong

Back before Elvis, and before the Vietnam war came along

Before the Beatles and yesterday, when a man could still work and still

would

Is the best of the free life behind us now?

and are the good times really over for good?

Are we rollin' down hill like a snowball headed for hell

With no kind of chance for the flag or the liberty bell

I wish a Ford and a Chevy would still last 10 years like they should

Is the best of the free life behind us now?

and are the good times really over for good?

I wish coke was still cola and a joint was a bad place to be

It was back before Nixon who lied to us all on tv

Before microwave ovens when a girl could still cook and still would

Is the best of the free life behind us now?

And are the good times really over for good?

Stop rollin' downhill like a snowball headed for hell

Stand up for the flag and let's all ring the liberty bell

Let's make a Ford and a Chevy that'll still last 10 years like they should

The best of the free life is still yet to come

And the good times ain't really over for good.

-- Merle Haggard

I believe I'll have another beer!"

Don't get me wrong, I used to be a big Dylan fan way back when. I'm just amused when some people misconstrue a few religious references in Dylan's songs to his being a conservative.

The Dead Milkman don't surprise me, but The Clash?

The Milkmen's best stuff is essentially apolitical, bitchin' parody, but the Clash were VERY left.

I saw the Milkmen at an all-ages concert (about 200 people). Live, they were pathetic. The audience laughed AT them, not with them.

I was responding to your comment about the world being a better place because of Dylan. I assumed that you thought I was being unduly dismissive of the enigmatic one. If so, I apologize.

That wasn't my pick, it was someone else's, but it does have a conservative bent to it.

Any clue who played that (there were two, were there not?)?

I've heard dozens of versions of "Sweet Jane" by Lou Reed solo and, before that, by the Velvets. As far as I know, Lou played the into, but it could have been John Cale on the old Velvets versions. The Cowboy Junkies did a great version of the song as well.

George Wallace was a pro-segregation democrat(although he changed before he died on it).

That may be true, but a little known fact is the Wallace OWNED the black vote in Alabama. He was more popular among the black population than the white (and he was genuinely adored by whites, as well). His percentage of the black vote in his gubanatorial races was astounding, but I cannot recall exactly how high. Something like 70% consistently. The media outside Alabama, of course, NEVER reports this. We're all supposed to hate the little bigot, you understand.

Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, has a ton of anti-liberal songs like Holiday in Cambodia and California Uber Alles.

California Uber Alles is brilliant. I was in awe the first time I heard that song in the early 80s. Old Jello is as lefty as one could be, a real fruitcake, but that song is astounding.

How far will you go How low will you stoop To tranquilize our minds with your sugar-coated swill You've turned rock and roll rebellion Into Pat Boone sedation Making sure there's nothing left of the imagination M.T.V. Get off the M.T.V. Get off the M.T.V. Get off the air Get off the air See the latest rejects from the muppet show Wag their tits and their dicks As they lip-sync on screen There's something I don't like About a band who always smiles Another tax write-off For some schmuck who doesn't care M.T.V. Get off the air And so it was Our beloved corporate gods Claimed they created rock video Allowing it to sink as low in one year As commercial TV has in 25 'It's the new frontier,' they say It's wide open, anything can happen But you've got a lot of nerve To call yourself a pioneer When you're too god-damn conservative To take real chances Tin-eared Graph-paper brained accountants Instead of music fans Call all the shots at giant record companies now The lowest common denominator rules Forget honesty Forget creativity The dumbest buy the mostest That's the name of the game But sales are slumping And no one will say why Could it be they put out One too many lousy records?!?
