Do you really like the etrenched bureaucracy, the big government, the high taxation we have in Washington today? If so, you are right in praising Lincoln.

Jefferson Davis installed a more intrusive government - including the first conscription, forced levy of farm products for military used, appropriation of slave labor for military use - and he tried to force through income taxes many times higher than those proposed by Lincoln. If you support Davis then wouldn't you be proposing a worse system than Lincoln every imagined?
