Jefferson Davis installed a more intrusive government - including the first conscription, forced levy of farm products for military used, appropriation of slave labor for military use - and he tried to force through income taxes many times higher than those proposed by Lincoln. If you support Davis then wouldn't you be proposing a worse system than Lincoln every imagined?

I haven't read of any Southerners rioting against Jeff Davis for his policies. When Mr. Lincoln tried to draft citizens and turn them into implements of war, they rebelled.
