It is also no surprise that president Bush seeks to cover up for previous presidents. What is shocking to me is that in the order by Bush both the current president and the previous president who produced the document will have the legal right to alter the document before the historians get to see it. Isn't that a bit sick? We're not merely talking about delaying the release of documents, we're talking about altering them to mislead the historians. We're talking about falsification and cover-up. They are going to give us a sanitized history. I'm sure the Republican cheerleaders will like that.
Congratulations go to the Democrats for passing the Freedom of Information Act 30 years ago. I hope there are enough honest Democrats and honest Republicans in Congress to over-ride this bad order by King George.
One of the purposes for a free people making laws that force government documents to be made public is to discourage executive branch officials from misbehaving. If Bush' order stands, then there will apparently never be a time when independent historians will be allowed to look at these documents.
Is Bush covering up for Clinton's corruption or for his father's abuses of power? Is this also part of the War On Terrorism that documents made by either Bush or Clinton while president will be altered before they are released to the historians?
Lets see some evidence he has altered ONE document.
"Great!", some of you will say, "He's a Republican". ....not so fast, a Democrat will land back in that office sooner or later.
I get a tear in my eye when I think of the damage of this executive order, along with Ashcroft's assault on the 4th amandment.
People, WAKE UP! Be wary of Government. Democrat or Republican. Period.
according to the PRAVDA 'forum', www.freerepublic.com "bans" articles from PRAVDA?
Gee........isn't that interesting?
Pravdi ni pravda.
Translation: Truth (the newspaper) doesn't speak the truth.
You might keep that in mind...
This is the pertinent issue. Whether it came from Pravada or Mad Magazine...if it's true...it's true. I guess it more important to try to do damage control for Bush than to try and get at the real truth.
Here's another Patriotic American headline I found at Pravada!:
LEW ROCKWELL: THE PRINTING PRESS PAYS FOR WAR In a little-noticed announcement, the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments has made a stab at estimating the direct costs of this splendid little war against Afghanistan. In the past this group has provided a very useful service in telling us exactly what the Pentagon is loath to talk about: how many taxpayer dollars our military central planners are plowing through on any given day...
Gee, no mention of America defending itself from terrorists attacks. DUH !!
Since when do the commies care about spending tax dollars? Are they afraid their welfare checks may get lowered??
Sounds like a liberal leftie touchie-feelie victimization type web site, eh?
The important thing in this is that we will lose our right to open government, which is one of the keystones of liberty. As far as presidents altering historical documents Nixon did : remember the 18 minute gap in the tapes? That incident probably was what inspired the 1978 law.
Is there some reason that we can't have an honest government? The papers from the Reagan presidency, if released, will apparently cause a lot of damage to both Bush Sr. and W. Why else is Bush fighting this?
(Re: the "gap": whas it 18 minutes or 18 seconds? I forgot.
