PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) -- Actor Danny Glover has called on the United States government to spare the life of Osama bin Laden, even if he is found guilty of being involved in terrorist acts.

Glover, who starred in "The Color Purple" and the "Lethal Weapons" series, made the comments Thursday during an anti-death penalty forum at Princeton University, The Trentonian of Trenton reported in Friday's editions.

He ought to listen to his hero, Mandela, whom he played in a movie. Nelson backs up George W. , he's got more common sense than Danny Glover. Yeah, Jet whupped him upside the head maybe once too often...but I've a feeling he's been brain damaged a long time.

Typical of liberals. Against the death penalty for mass murderers like Bin Laden but have no qualms against killing innocent babies.

I disagree- I am for the death penalty, but only when the evidence is more than 'circumstantial'.

If someone SEES you do it, then that's pretty definate.

You make a great point. A review of all cases should occur to make sure the facts are valid immediately after conviction to eliminate mistakes. Not a legal review but a review by competent investigators. If the facts are not conclusive, the death penalty should not be imposed. The process should not be hampered by the advocacy system where lawyers use tricks to escape punishment. Once convicted, tricks from both sides should be thrown out.

Further, anti-death penalty advocates should expend their effort helping young men not commit the crimes that yield the death penalty.

A man with Glover's resources could easily save 700 men by helping them get an education and gainful employment. It would be more helpful and convincing than whining to a bunch of like minded liberals.

There are sites in New York City, Washington DC, and central Pennsylvania, where over 6000 (that's SIX THOUSAND) mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, wives and husbands -- human beings -- have been ground into barely recognizeable fragments, reduced to ash, crushed, torn, broken, lost.... and this doofus would place sympathy with the perpetrator.

Then I remember Danny Glover is an actor, and has no connection to reality whatsoever. Life goes on in spite of him and his opinion.

Can't act anyway, or hold a candle to Morgan Freeman.

Morgan Freeman?? Compared to this guy, "Stymie" wins an Academy Award.

"This clearly is a slippery slope," Glover said. "We must stand vigilant against (President) Bush in these times."

I suggest that Mr.Glover stays out the grown up's business and stick with the make believe movies.Such a statement might prove very detrimental to his carrier, and the big movie studios are very weary about their stars mouthing off stupid statements like he does. I had very high regards about Mr.Glover but his statement just killed everything what I held about him. Why is Hollywood beset by such hollow minded people?

It looks to me that, it does not take a whole lot of intelligence to become an actor. Room temperature IQ is the norm.

Cut Danny some slack... clearly he understands that when a woman is raped, it's because her dress was too short.

Was it the time of Ceasar that would not allow actors to speek in public outside of their "Theater " roles? I dont think they were allowed to vote either!

John Wayne, Mel Gibson, Tom Seleck... are these about the only actors that lived by their words and only accepted acting jobs that would not comprimise their integrity?

By Glover speaking out this way he makes himself out to be a hypocrit.

Admitedly I'm not a Danny Glover historian but his stance on the death penanlty seems rather broad. Personally I only accept veiws of people that have a much more focused view of this subject.

Danny Glover's career just called him from its death bed to say "goodbye". Glover is a hapless mockery of a joke. He first started his nonsense after the 3rd "Lethal Weapon" movie when he stated that African-American actors were being denied movie roles, especially leading character roles, even though the dumbass himself had just been in half a dozen top billed, A-list films. Later his silly crusade to embarrass New York City cab drivers by alleging that they were practicing "racism" by not picking him and other black passengers up, fell flat as most of the cab drivers were either black or people of "color" themselves. His third stupid stunt was to appear at and endorse commie traitor congresswoman Barbara Lee's constituent public address/celebration reiterating her "courage" in defying the "knee-jerk" military aggression against Osama Bin Laden and the Al Qaeda network. Glover topped off his record of stupidity by doing the repugnant and unimaginable: demanding that the US spare the most wanted mass murderer and terrorist on Earth. I don't own any copies of movies with Danny Glover in them, but if I did, they'd be heaps of burning plastic by now.

Ok, first off, in general I have no problem with the death penalty (I don't like killing people, but I understand the uses for it), and I am against abortions except in extreme cases. I'm just saying this so when I play a little devil's advocate here, nobody tries to reem me for things I don't believe. :P

Ok... most of you seem to be saying ~99% of actors are idiots and you should not support them. Does this mean that none of you ever see movies? I assume you don't own televisions, VCRs, or DVD players? The only reason these people you all hate so much make so much money and are so famous... is because people see their movies. Just curious how many of you actually stand by what you say... or if you still watch movies regardless of what you say here (or sitcoms, primetime dramas, etc, etc).

Also, being against the death penalty does not make you anti-American, lol. I'm not speaking specifically to Glover's beliefs... but just anti-death penalty in general. Glover didn't say he wanted bin Laden to be freed, or let go... he didn't say he would be sad if bin Laden was killed in battle... all he said was that if bin Laden is "captured" (or anyone else for that matter), he does not believe we should seek a death penalty. How is this anti-American? Killing bin Laden doesn't bring all those people back. Now... somebody, don't remember who, but he was the only one with a GOOD argument here said that if we keep bin Laden alive, we may have to fear terrorists trying to break him out by causing more suffering. I feel that is a good reason to seek the death penalty... but I don't think it is a good reason to hate someone who thinks the death penalty is wrong.

Finally, how many of you are Christians? (I am not, just FYI.) Isn't Christianity against killing of any sort, including the death penalty? Just wondering if any of you that are asking for bin Laden's life are Christian, and how you justify that based on your Christian beliefs.

Alright, take it easy everyone, and I look forward to your responses.

"When I say the death penalty is inhumane, I mean (it) whether that person is in a bird cage (jail) or bin Laden," Glover told the crowd.

Glover is missing the big picture. Maybe it's just me, but the WORST possible scenario is that we get Bin Laden alive. Think of all the mass terrorist acts that extremists will do to try to get him freed if we get him alive.

Glover is speaking about humanity and, indirectly, about nonviolence. However, the eyes of a potato can see that the only way to insure that the least amount of violence occurs is to kill Bin Laden.

Nope, you are not alone in that belief. I would be pretty worried about possible hostage situations, terrorist strikes, etc, in attempts to free him.
