Apparently George Clooney and others were in an uproar that a "nobody" like O'Reilly would tell them what to do.

George Clooney is a "nobody" in my book!

In his book he says that it is a private, personal decision. He does offer the opinion that taxpayers shouldn't be forced to pay for them.

His Saturday night CBS show has been canned, no big loss, it was a lame rehash of his E! show, anyway. Howard has been going downhill for awhile, it can be dated to his split from his wife. Or maybe the movie, which everybody seemed to like, but this longtime fan thought it sucked. Or maybe when the great Billy West left. Or maybe when Jackie left. Or Cabbie came on.

I think both national ones, reported he was getting better ratings than other garbage there, but NOT THAT MUCH BETTER. They will be going back to "Leave It To Beaver". LOL

Is/was D'Amato pro-life?

NO.

I don’t know where you’re getting your information from, but Gloria Feldt certainly believed Al D’Amato was pro-life.

Al D'Amato has consistently voted against legislation that would improve the reproductive lives of millions of women. He voted against expanding Medicaid coverage of abortion services to include rape and incest! He even wants a constitutional amendment to ban all abortions. In fact, Al D'Amato has never met a piece of anti-choice, anti-family planning legislation he doesn't like - Al D'Amato has been too wrong for too long.

- Gloria Feldt, President - Planned Parenthood Federation of America

In fact, Al D’Amato authored a proposed constitutional amendment banning abortions.

Stern is a disgusting pig. I'm surprised O'Reilly would go on the show.

See post #33. D'Amato's no pro-lifer, hence it's fully consistent for Stern to endorse.

Well, if the Constitution actually meant anything, abortion wouldn't be a political issue, at least at the Federal level. The FEds have no right to tell the states they cannot ban. Now, whether your philosophy of gov't says any gov't ought to be able to ban is another matter...

OReilly is pro-life. I have heard him address this issue a number of times. He has also admitted that he is not a republican, but is an independent.

I'd thought so, too, until I read this thread.

So, the current score seems to be:

Are all the votes in?

O'Reilly says he is personally opposed to abortion. He says that he believes it is morally wrong. But he opposes any attempts to criminalize it. He opposes the partial-birth variety, limiting trimesters, etc.

But, in the final analysis, he thinks it should be legal to murder children as long as they are not very big. That, to me, is a pro-abort.

The United Way and Red Cross are down but not out. In the next few months count on the New York Times doing a story on some WTC family using the money unwisely. The kicker will be that Red Cross and United Way would make better choices than the families.

O'Reilly thinks he's dealing with people of good will. He's wrong. He's dealing with liberals who got caught, are ticked off, and will get even.

The fact that WTC families will be hurt all over will not occur to the liberal "care givers".

Let the games begin.

Howard's got a major hangup about abortion rights because he has three daughters and, being the obsessive compulsive that he is, he lies awake at night worrying about them becoming pregnant teenagers.

It's so bad that he seriously considered Gore/Lieberman, even though he hated most of what they stood for, and even though Lieberman had personally demonized Stern. I don't know who he actually voted for on election day, though.

For me, Howard lost a lot of his appeal when he left his wife. His whole schtick was that he would say these outrageous, leering things, but he was really a good husband who didn't act on his impulses. Now that he is a free man, it's not that funny anymore. Another loss is Jackie being gone. I loved listening to him argue with Robin and Fred, and Crazy Cabbie is merely a pale imitation.

And I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who was disappointed in Howard's movie. I became a Howard fan after reading "Private Parts" -- the book was so incredibly funny -- but the movie only made me laugh a few times.

I'd prefer Imus and O'Reilly to Stern. I like Imus. I've liked him ever since he made the following statement during the Senate race between the Hildebeast & Lazio:
"We hate you people. You've disgraced this country, you're a buck-toothed crook, your husband's obviously a dirtbag. Get out of our life. Leave us alone. God almighty. just go away! God, it's like some rash you can't get rid of. God, would you two fat goobers just get out?"
Gotta love Imus just for that rant.
