LONDON: Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar warned Thursday of a "big" plan to destroy the United States which could happen within a short period of time, according to an interview on BBC radio.
In the interview, conducted in Pashto for BBC World Service radio, he also refused any cooperation with the formation of a new broad-based government in Kabul. "The current situation of Afghanistan is related to a big cause -- that is the destruction of America," he added.
"The plan is going ahead and God willing it is being implemented, but it is a huge task beyond the will and comprehension of human beings. "If God's help is with us this will happen within a short period of time." "Keep in mind this prediction." He said the Taliban preferred death to taking part in what would be an evil government, saying the struggle for a broad-based regime had been going on for 20 years and nothing had come of it.
Asked about sweeping gains by opposition forces, which have seen them take the Afghan capital Kabul and a swathe of the north of the country, he said the Taliban still held their southern stronghold of Kandahar. He also said it was unimportant how many provinces fell, as territory lost could be regained. - AFP
Yeah ... I think I'll cancel my dental appointment ... what, with threats like this, it would appear I won't need'em much longer. ;)
Actually, no I haven't. I remember the stuff about middle eastern backpackers near Phoenix, but nothing about a "Phoenix FBI Bulletin".
And they say you don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off an 'ole Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Sam

Kill us? Maybe some of us? But not before we get them and anyone that is stupid enough to go along with them. The problem is they haven't realized we have a real President these days, and 90% of us agree with him. Screw the other 10%.
I think this thread is pretty much mis-interpreting this guy's comments. To me, his remarks sound like statements on eschatology -- "end time" beliefs. And, as such, they're not too different from what some Christians (those who see America as "Mystery Babylon") see in Revelation. It's not that America will be destroyed "by" terrorists. But, rather, by God (who may, presumably, "use" terrorists -- but if you read the following chapter, you see there's such a fast and complete destruction predicted for "Mystery Babylon" -- whatever that is -- that's is apparently much more than _just_ terrorism):
Revelation 18
1 After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor.
2 With a mighty voice he shouted: "Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.
3 For all the nations have drunk the maddening wine of her adulteries. The kings of the earth committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries."
4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say: "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues;
5 for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.
6 Give back to her as she has given; pay her back double for what she has done. Mix her a double portion from her own cup.
7 Give her as much torture and grief as the glory and luxury she gave herself. In her heart she boasts, `I sit as queen; I am not a widow, and I will never mourn.'
8 Therefore in one day her plagues will overtake her: death, mourning and famine. She will be consumed by fire, for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
9 "When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her.
10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry: "`Woe! Woe, O great city, O Babylon, city of power! In one hour your doom has come!'
11 "The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes any more--
12 cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;
13 cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and bodies and souls of men.
14 "They will say, `The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.'
15 The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment. They will weep and mourn
16 and cry out: "`Woe! Woe, O great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls!
17 In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!' "Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off.
18 When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, `Was there ever a city like this great city?'
19 They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out: "`Woe! Woe, O great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!
20 Rejoice over her, O heaven! Rejoice, saints and apostles and prophets! God has judged her for the way she treated you.'"
21 Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: "With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.
22 The music of harpists and musicians, flute players and trumpeters, will never be heard in you again. No workman of any trade will ever be found in you again. The sound of a millstone will never be heard in you again.
23 The light of a lamp will never shine in you again. The voice of bridegroom and bride will never be heard in you again. Your merchants were the world's great men. By your magic spell all the nations were led astray.
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and of the saints, and of all who have been killed on the earth."
Obviously, this kind of thing can be "interpretted" nine billion different ways. But if you look at a couple of general themes -- 1) Does the description of "Mystery Babylon" apply to America _better_ than it has applied to any country/area/entity throughout all history? 2) Does the _destruction_ sound like "just" a terrorist attack (or series), or something geophysical? -- then I think this chapter gives a modern American a lot to think about.
More to the point, I think if you pray for discernment the Holy Spirit will answer your prayer. THEN this chapter gives a modern American a lot to think about.

Then they're hallucinating. (Or pulling the BBC's leg.)
China has a zillion troops, but practically no navy and damned few transport planes. How would the PLA get to the US to invade -- swim?
The best military analysis says that they'd even be hard pressed to move enough troops a few miles over water to attack *Taiwan* effectively.
If the PLA tried to come to the US to invade, their incoming planes and ships (and the troops they contained) would quickly end up at the bottom of the ocean.
We never had so many traitors living IN America before.
Wish I could take comfort in your words, given their sound logic and all. . . . I've talked to similar military sources. . .
But the other stuff has long had too much of a ring of truth to it. . . I don't know how it will be accomplished. . . some say a U.S. Admiral was murdered because he wouldn't go along with plans to set up such transports on US NAVY SHIPS. . . .
The varieties of information, the range of qualities of sources, etc. etc. etc. are just tooooooooooooo something to be coincidental; mind experiments; etc. etc. The MOST PLAUSIBLE explnation is that they are true.
But I realize that few people really examine the host of information.
On the other hand, The U.S. will eventually be destroyed. All empires fall. History proves it over and over. No nation or empire has ever lasted -- and this is especially true of nations that decayed morally, politically, and spiritually as the U.S. has.
All of you utopians out there should face reality.
Actually, the "most plausible" explanation is that the conspiracy press likes to circulate unsubstantiated rumors which bolster their Conspiracy Of The Week(tm). For example, the "aired-once BBC program" sounds less like an actual BBC program, and more like rumors that one had once aired, passed along by a "friend of a friend".
If you're trying to say that we have more "traitors" here today as a percentage of the population than we had during the Revolutionary war (tories) or Civil war (southern rebels and their sympathizers), you're extremely mistaken.
I think we'd better do it. May God help us. All the nukes in the world can't defeat His purposes.
I'll see your self-humbling/repentance, and raise you a "Lord, please have mercy and keep our nation safe from harm."
And along with that, I'd say that people who make such threats as Mullah Omar:
1) need to be taken seriously, and
2) need to be taken down.
