Conspiracies abound
Self | 11/12/2001 | Lawdude

After reading a few hundred posts on the FR forum today I can only say, FR has turned into a "Conspiracy Theory Haven". People have been posting the most OUTLANDISH comments with absolutely nothing to support them except that a "Government Spokesman" has denied them. I guess that denial is proof in the world of the cynic who is unable to look at information and sift fact from conjecture.

I don't know what caused the crash today. I know for certain I DON'T have enough factual information to even form a reasonable opinion. (Note: the key word is REASONABLE!)

I look at known, objective information which I believe most would accept as factual and add to that pile of info as it becomes available. So far, there is absolutely no, I say again, NO, evidence that the crash was anything but malfunction. Now, a person needs fact to whittle away at that supposition. What FACTS do we have to do so?

Darn little, if any. Let's look-

1) Crashed in Rockaway. Hmmm Normal takeoff route. But one of many.
2) Rockaway is home of Mike Moran. SO?
3) Some witnesses claim to have heard an explosion...Most do not!
4) This type of airplane is crashproof. BS. Not worthy of comment.
Add others and try to RATIONALLY draw conclusions based on FACT. Not some hypothetical desire to be the one that proves it was OBL beyond a reasonable doubt. You ain't gonna be a hero, chum.

Flame away tin hatters, I can take it. But until I see some viable arguments to prove a conspiracy/terrorist influence, I will believe that a mechanical malfunction was the cause for the loss of 255 + innocent lives.

"Unhealthy, man."

My problem is people who state a positional theory (government lies) then go from that to STATE as fact that, because of this, the theory is proven. Then take those who deign to disagree to task. I don't mind anyone using reported information from reasonable sources to form an opinion! I do dislike having my position disclaimed because "everyone knows the government lies". And then using this to proclaim their position. Where are their facts?

And, yup, I am occasionally as guilty as anyone else of jumping to conclusions.

"Seems to me YOUR side is jumping to conclusions while our side is merely raising possibilities. "

Yup. There is a possibility that terrorist acts took down the plane. I agree. I do NOT agree that because the plane crashed, it MUST be due to terrorists! That is my bitch!

"Only ostrichs stick their heads in the sand. My 7 year old niece can figure this one out."

Could be, but I believe you are wrong.

I will never change your mind and even if the evidence proves to be overwhelming in support of mechanical failure, you will still stick by your beliefs. Everyone has gotta believe something. I believe I will have a glass of wine.

"but I'm wondering how they have determined this is an accident at this point."

No official has proclaimed this to be an accident. The NTSB will do their investigation and prepare a report. In the meantime facts will come out. We can all conclude to our satisfaction based on what we hear and believe!

How dare you say that?

Because it is true. I was saying it when he was still here. Have you read his latest garbage?

True enough. They have only said "We are proceeding as if this was an accident."

But I have heard on Fox News tonight, citizens say "they are relieved that this was just an accident."

Regardless of how they word their statements, they are convincing the majority of sheeple that this WAS NOT terrorism, and that's pissing me off.

Maybe the Fedgov should take your advise and wait until the investigation is complete.

I'm not claiming cospiracy, but I am amazed at how many are shouting mechanical error, maybe it was, but has WTC faded this fast?

#102 I didn't write that comment, rather responded to it. I agree with you, and believe we will learn what happened.

...but I'm wondering how they have determined this is an accident at this point.

Maybe I'm begining to see the problem here. It looks like you, and a lot of others here, think that as soon as something like this happens you are supposed to rush to come up with an explanation based on whatever information you have quickly. I know that some people have a real problem deferring decisions and can't stand to say "I don't know".

And then you think that everyone works that way so you interpret statements like, "there is no evidence of terrorism" or "all the evidence is consistent with an accident" as statements of the actual cause, instead of the purely factual but non-judgemental statements they are.

That seems to me the only way you could make a statement like the above since nobody has done what you think they've done.

You need to learn to deal with these gray areas. We don't always know the answer right away. On some things we never know the answer. A person has to be able to say, "I don't know" sometimes.

In this case we probably will know at some point, but because so many people have already made up their minds what happened, and that they are being lied to, if the answer really is an accident they won't accept it. Even if it's true. Be patient, be rational, defer judgement.

For someone who seemingly has as little to contribute as you do I find it hard to believe you find it so necessary to mock and belittle those people who speculate on possible conspiracies. Being ignorant and arrogant is no way to go through life.

No, he doesn’t have a “chat room”. He has only his website which is his “lecture room”. He lectures to everyone in the world. The only way to talk back to him is to send him and email.

#109 The WTC will never fade. What many posters are complaining about, this is already being called "conspiracy" and the "Govt will lie to us". We should remember, we have a good president now, and I believe he will be truthful about this--not like the last administration, who bombed an aspirin factory to try to cover his sorry butt in the Monica fiasco.

The more I think about it, I don't doubt it could have been a terrorist act, this being Veteran's Day, but as another poster pointed out, why a planeload of Dominicans? We just can't draw conclusions. I trust Pres Bush enough to wait to hear what he has to say.

I do not agree it is garbage. Michael documents everything.

I don't remember him calling people names, either.

What gets to me is I watched Ari Fleischer's briefing-- and although, if you only read a transcript, you would believe that he did not take a position on the cause, if you watched him, you would come away with the impression that they had reason to believe it was just an accident. Subtle things-- expression, emphasis, tone of voice. Fortunately, he stopped short of telling me to go shopping. But, it reminded me of whatever idiot it was who told us the first guy with inhalation anthrax got it from drinking from a stream.

I would feel MUCH better if Ari just came out and said-- "Look, we don't know jack sh*t, but we're working on it, and when we do, you'll be the first to know." That would suit me fine. We're adults, for crying out loud, and the government should treat us as such. I'm really leery of the subliminal spin here.
