Patali: Pilot of AA flight dumped fuel prior to crash, in (likely) response to mechanical failures
Gov. Pataki | 11/12/01 | WABC Radio

Posted on 11/12/2001 12:18:32 PM PST by Steven W.

Gov. Pataki is reporting that the pilot of the ill-fated American Airlines flight dumped most of the airplane's fuel over Jamaica Bay, anticipating a crash landing and most likely indicating a trained response to onboard mechanical failures.

I don't know about the Air Bus, I worked on SAM Boeing 707 manuals. But the procedures should be the same on any aircraft that has the capability to dump fuel. (With the obvious differences due to switch names/placement, volume/minute etc).

Maybe the "witnesses" supporting Mumia were right!

I'm sure I heard on FoxNews earlier today something like "eyewitness reports aren't always accurate" . . . and I thought to myself, uh huh, they're setting up their own version . . . . Anyone else hear that?

Yes, I heard something like that, as well. Don't remember the exact words, but you got the flavor nailed. And I think they're all spinning.

I'm betting the black box will show an "in cockpit" distress call. . .something like ". . . Wh. . .the hell!" Or. . .well, use your imagination. It has happened before--in an instant of sudden unbelievable shock and stress, it is natural for pilots to just automatically blurt out the first words that their brain registers--and those words are often expletive in nature. It may be a long time before you know what they were.

Are you kidding me? Clean shaven and not wearing a turban most middle easterners look white to me. Until they start speaking with a heavy accent of course.

"The investigation is ongoing but in light of recent events and the manner in which this plane crashed the we suspect that the crash may have been the result of a deliberate act."

So in order to err on the side of caution, we have put our ICBMs on Red Alert.(Mecca, Medina, Bagdad, Cairo)

Remember the Taliban threat of planes falling from the skies?

You said: Well, I would think a hole would require some explaing!

FYI: I was replying to post #161, which in full said:
Paul Czysz, an aviation specialist at Parks College of St. Louis University, said the circular hole in the side of an engine that fell from the doomed airliner is suspicious. Czysz said jet engines of the type on the A-300 are designed to contain any debris from a turbine blade failure. In a catastrophic, uncontained failure involving sheared turbine blades, he said, there likely would be more engine damage than apparent in the engine on the ground.

Cyzsz said that if the engine had fallen from the plane as a result of failure in its attachment bolts, he also would expect to see more substantial damage than was apparent in pictures of the engine on the ground.

4. I don't believe a terrorist was on the plane, or if there was one, I don't believe he went to the cockpit. NTSB stated that the checked baggage had been "passenger matched," which they naively believed, in the past, that NO ONE would put a bomb in their luggage and THEN board the plane, knowing they would die. NOW we know that they would.

If they'll fly themselves into a building knowing that they'll surely die, why wouldn't they blow up a plane using their luggage? The NTSB's "logic" on this one isn't anywhere near logical.

From a UPS Captain:

"Our maintainance department could not find a schematic showing a fuel dump system. He did mention that the A300-600 that we fly has a fuel tank in the horizontal stab.

Also, some of the film that I've seen that shows a large piece of wreckage looks very much like the tail of the airplane There is a cut-out that appears to me to be for the stab. The stab cut-out and the shereical rear pressure bulkhead is what identifies that hunk of metal. I would assume from that that the CVR and FDR will be in good shape as that area of the airplane did not appear to have been subjected to high stress/heat."

FWIW.

People are saying mechanical failure this and mechanical failure that. Of course it was a mechanical failure. Even if a bomb goes off on the plane the result would be a mechanical failure.

How right you are. Like saying death was caused by heart failure - that's what all death is. Your hearts stops, you die . . .

I'd really like to get the take of Batchelor and Alexander right now. Is their show available on the internet, and what time are they on nowadays?

I'm with you, Aristeides. This constant quick spinshit is driving this little "housemouse" totally out of her mousy mind.

I watched the coverage all day today, and there is just too much that doesn't add up.

The most important detail that sticks in my teeny cranium is that as soon as Neil Cavuto on Fox noticed that the stock market was tanking in response to the news, (and this was about 20 minutes after the plane went down), he started the cheerleading for "just a horrible accident, folks, no reason to suspecct anything more"... and the momentum built from there, and got even more ridiculous as the day wore on!

I am so depressed tonight that even this administration can't tell us the straight truth that I could just spit.
