I am watching "Private Ryan," on ABC, I think. Dumb me---I didn't think that "sh*t" was used in prime time. Or "g.d." But the F word!!???!!.................nothing follows.

You know, if you can't understand the concept of the "Family Hour", I guess the hippies have won after all.

Then again, you could just be slow.

Then don't put it on!

ABC has given more than fair warning.

The context of the word also matters. It's not used as a verb in SPR.

It presents the REALITY of the situations. See POST 29

I'm sick of people bitching and moaning here, about TV and how the government should crackdown, yet want the government other of every other damn thing.

Let individuals decide what is/is not acceptable for them.

Once again, DON"T WATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nevertheless, knowing my grandparents and neighbors who were soldiers, I tend to think they had more innate dignity

Get a clue.

Pvt Ryan, EXACTLY AS IT IS, is the grim reality (what a concept, huh?).

If FReepers are this clueless, the peacenicks & Al Qaeda & company will sell their lies with ease, and that folks, is bad news for our country.

Men who fight and kill and die, don't worry about words. PERIOD.

The "f-word" is OK on network television only if the sheeple don't start boycotting all advertisers of any show it's run on!

The recession is our ally. No merchant or manufacturer will pay high ad dollars to buy a boycott now. That's why a sponsor boycott - not people flipping the channel or turning off TV altogether - is what the networks fear most.

And what Clinton did in the Oval (peoples) office was ok too.

Just us bad old Christians trying to impose our horrible morality on everyone else.

Family hour? We don't need no steenking Family Hour, we're Libertarians!

Didn't the people who LIVED during WWI, WWII, the Civil War, etc. appreciate the sacrifices, feel patriotism, etc.? Without the "F" word and blood and guts in the family living area?

Excellent post, Adam. You are right, young men did not throw around the F word in the 1940's. They were extremely careful of their use of language, so as not to offend those whom they called "the fair sex". They had too much respect for their wives, mothers, sisters, and girlfriends to talk that way.

Read "Band of Brothers" if you have not yet. It is a true and accurate representation of the men who fought for the US in World War II. This Spielberg scheiss is revisionist in the manner in which your grandfather's generation is represented. Spielberg and company want you to think young men were always bellycrawling guttersnipes who spewed nothing but filthy obscenities morning, noon, and night. This is false; Spielberg promotes lies and deceptions in every one of his films.

Sex and death are real too, how about XXX porno and snuff films on Saturday morning?

You better get rid of your TV now.

I'm sure that's in Bloombergs and ABC's master plan.

If there comes a time where to not show sex and death makes you lose money, then I'm sure they would accept it. PAX and CBN probably would not.

Star Trek: Enterprise, used some vulgarity in its pilot episode. It's UPN though, go figure. :P

The word "conservative" is offensive to some people. The words "tax cut" are offensive to some people. Should these be banned also?

Going to Bloomberg's house and yelling at him is an unavoidable nascence. A TV channel is not. Turn the station.

Sorry, I don't need government to ensure that my children are not exposed to profanity. I can do that all by myself.

If you are less capable, then I guess I understand.

Why would anything from an industry dominated by fruits, nuts and flakes surprise anybody?

Just take your 'Babylonian idiot box' out in the back yard and shoot it with about ten rounds of 4 buck.

You'll feel much better about Hollywood then...

They chose to make this one with the f word. It's called freedom. You have the freedom not to watch.

Nevertheless, knowing my grandparents and neighbors who were soldiers, I tend to think they had more innate dignity, for the most part.

You are mistaken if you think soldiers during WWI and WWII didn't act like that. When they got shot, do you think they shouted "Oh, golly!". They were there to KILL other people. And they were away from women for MONTHS at a time. Soldiers didn't just start swearing during Vietnam - Vietnam was just the first war fought on TV. The films they made to drum up support for WWII wouldn't have been as effective if they put in phrases such as "we shelled those nips right in a**", as I heard from my former next door neighbor, a WWII amry veteran)
