BEIRUT, Lebanon (AP) - To deafening shouts of "Death to America," the leader of a Lebanese guerrilla group today said US conceit and foolishness will lead to its own demise.
Speaking at a rally south of the Lebanese capital marking "Martyrs' Day," Hizbullah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said America wanted to establish "unlimited hegemony" over the world.
"But we believe that the new world order based on hegemony will not last long.
The Americans are behaving in a conceited, haughty and arrogant manner, not in a sane manner, and when the strongman is ignorant and foolish, he will be killed by his own foolishness and conceit," Nasrallah said.
Nasrallah criticized US President George W. Bush's speech to the UN General Assembly yesterday, in which he said all countries share an obligation to battle terrorism.
"For every regime that sponsors terror, there is a price to be paid and it will be paid," Bush said. Bush did not single out any nation, but aides said his words were directed at Lebanon, Syria, Iran and other countries whose commitment to the anti-terrorism effort have come under scrutiny.
Washington has put Hizbullah on a list of 22 suspected terrorist organizations and individuals whose finances should be frozen.
The move was part of the US campaign to crack down on terrorist networks following the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington.
Lebanon has refused to name Hizbullah as a terrorist organization and said last Thursday it would not freeze the Iran-backed guerrilla group's assets per Washington' calls. Nasrallah said Bush was "threatening the entire world from under the dome of the United Nations," adding that world leaders sat facing him "like schoolchildren."
"The United States gives itself the right to categorize the people and governments of the world as terrorists and terrorist supporters. It gives itself the right to define terrorism ... At the same time, (US) warplanes were killing 300 civilians in Kabul and Kandahar," he said.
"Are they (victims) all (Osama) bin Laden, are they all al-Qaida organization, are they all Taliban? No," he added.
Saudi dissident bin Laden and his al-Qaida organization are wanted by Washington for orchestrating the September attacks in the United States. Afghanistan's Taliban rulers are harboring them.
Nasrallah urged countries to reject America's "aggression" against Afghanistan. "The important thing is not to surrender to fear and illusion, but to be realistic," he told the thousands who came to hear him speak.
The Martyrs' Day ceremony is held by Hizbullah to commemorate the death of more than 1,200 of its guerillas in fighting with Israel during the Jewish state's 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon, which ended May 2000.
In other Lebaneses news, scores of Lebanese hurled stones at IDF soldiers manning the Fatma crossing point to Lebanon earlier today.
The rioters also tried to damage the security fence at the site, Army Radio said.
He's one to talk. America has existed for well over 200 years and has gotten better with each year. Lebanon, as well as the rest of the middle east, is a basket case and has remained so for hundreds of years. Physician, heal thyself.

No, we are: rich, good, and very powerful. The next time you answer your cellphone and say hello be prepared for a message to look out your window, watch the Osama coming in and say goodbye. Hello, goodbye.
Neither he nor Hillary apparently appreciate President Bush's rhetorical prowess.
Oh, I can think of it getting a lot worse. Then, it will get a lot better. Of course, this whining Arab won't be around to see it but that's part of the reason it will be better.
Ok...so whats your point?
It can and will get worse. Sooner rather than later!!
The thing he left off his list is the word "mad". He should have added "angry". Any other attacks on the US and we will become mad. This fool better understand what will happen if we get furious. He and his ilk have not even seen us draw our swords yet. Maybe they will if they keep jacking around wih us. If they do, they may find that they might be praying 5 times a day to nothing but scorched earth.
Lebanon was actually quite nice once. Beirut was called "the Paris of the Middle East".
The Hizbullah types changed all that.
Out of their own mouths their fate is foretold, just as scripture predicts. For it is they that are arrogant, reveling in a destructive and self-destructive Koranic "scholarship" that leads nowhere but to unending poverty, hopelessness, lack of opportunity and death, fixated upon returning a medieval type of totalitarian theocracy which most desire to leave and very few immigrate to.
