I ordered some postage stamps on line and received this e-mail from the US Postal Service.
Dear Customer,
To ensure the absolute safety and security of our customers, employees and products, online ordering from The Postal Store was temporarily suspended last week when environmental testing at our fulfillment center in Kansas City, MO. detected two minor traces of anthrax. Since the closing, we have worked closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Missouri state health officials to ensure the safety of this facility.
We are pleased to report that the most recent environmental testing of the facility confirmed that both our employees and the facility are completely free of any contamination. As a result, we anticipate being 100 percent operational by the end of next week.
Under normal circumstances, the $35.00 charge to your credit card would coincide with the shipment of your items. However, due to the unforeseen precautionary closure of our fulfillment center, your card has been charged before the items were shipped.
While we sincerely apologize for the delay and any resulting inconvenience, we based our decision on our primary concern - the health and safety of our customers and employees. Please rest assured that we are doing everything possible to expedite the delivery of your order.
We appreciate your understanding and thank you in advance for your continued support of The Postal Store.
Licking stamps could be hazardous to your health. I hadn't even considered that. Maybe they should have a warning lable just like cigarettes. You have a better chance of winning the lottery, than getting anthrax. Good luck!
Note: If you are mailing anything over one pound, make sure you present it at a USPS counter for metered postage...this will ensure its swift delivery. Any package over one pound, not presented for face-to-face delivery, sent with regular (self-stick) stamps, is being returned to sender. Always include your return address in the upper left-hand corner of whatever you are mailing.
Thanks for the advice. Godspeed, postman.
