LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. (AP) -- President Bush's denomination, the United Methodist Church, implicitly criticized the U.S. war effort Friday, declaring that "violence in all of its forms and expressions is contrary to God's purpose for the world."
The statement by the denomination's bishops referred to the Sept. 11 attacks and bioterrorism attacks but offered no justification for the American military response.

Well, if I were a Methodist, think I'd be looking for another denomination to join. I was, and I did!! Now Presbyterian PCA.

This stupidity is exactly why the Methodists are losing memebers. My in-laws are of that demonination and they wonder why I won't step foot in their liberal church! After this article my answer is when he## freezes over. I'll stick with my Baptist friends.

They're probably female bishops"
Yeah and hostile lesbian Bishops who force hostile lesbian ministers on the churches under them.
This church has been pro Castro and growing Anti American for decades. My 85 year old mother in law is so upset with what the Methodist Church has become, she makes excuses not to go. This is very distressing to her as a life long Methodist!

She should think of herself as a Christian and not as a Methodist. Then she should leave that wretched ex-Christian denomination.

"violence in all of its forms and expressions is contrary to God's purpose for the world."Ask the money changers in the temple about that.
I remember that Jesus got a little miffed at them, made a whip of small cords, and forcibly expelled them from the temple.
Or is that not in your liberal bible?
Maybe your version says he gave them all a "time out", and took them before the World Court.

Well, if they want to go like lambs to a slaghter... let them! I think this a poor statement to make knowing that there are young Methodist soldiers fighting for America... putting their lives on the line with other soldiers of all all faiths. I wonder how President Bush feels about this statement?

If you want a world free from sin, brother, you better get ready for heaven, for this old world has a Satan running around on the lose, and I see no signs of things getting better.

After leaving another large mainstream Protestant denomination I joined a Free Methodist church. Many of them were of the pray and not be judgemental and to not take up arms to defend yourself or others, which is to be expected from those who have lived Godly lives and been rewarded with prosperity and comfort that this often brings.
I made a lot of enemies by telling people that we have to deport illegals right now because they were causing a lot of civil and cultural disruption. In the last week of August we were discussing Muslim atrocities in Africa and Indonesia against Christians, and people nodded their heads. Then I added that Islam was our worst enemy. The ladies rolled their eyes, and I could see as well as feel their shame of having such an intolerant old man in their nice comfortable church.
The Sunday after the terrorist attacks they asked for prayer requests, and I asked the congregation to pray for God to send us Joshuas, Gideons, Davids, and Samsons, and to seek His help in killing all the Muslims who have no hesitancy to kill non-combatant men, women, and children. Many, including the pastor were visibly shocked.
Last Sunday the pastor had the kids up for their little sermon, and he urged them to never renounce Jesus, and to be ready to die if anyone tried to take their religion from them. And the congregation wasn't at all shocked.
There is bound to be a lot of change in all our churches and Paganistic New Age based teachings. I wonder what our pastor will tell the kids next week.
