"Islamism is fascism"

Daniel Pipes says leading American Muslim groups want Islamic law to rule the U.S. -- even if they won't admit it -- and must be carefully watched.

For Muslims in America, the rhetorical war of words continues to escalate at home. Two weeks after sparring publicly with Jewish advocacy groups over the accurate number of Muslims living in the U.S., the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Thursday issued a call to stop the "Islamophobic smear campaign" against the American Muslim community and its leaders. CAIR urged journalists and public officials not to "be used as unwitting tools in this campaign or to undermine President Bush's efforts to show that the war on terrorism is not a conflict with Islam."

CAIR angrily pointed to a recent Los Angeles Times article which reported, "Pro-Israel or Jewish organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League, the Jewish Defense League and the Middle East Forum think tank have provided news organizations with reams of critical documentation on Muslim leaders in recent weeks."

And the group singled out Middle East Forum's Daniel Pipes for special Scorn, calling Pipes "one of the foremost proponents of the current smear campaign," which has tied CAIR with Islamic radicalism and even violence.

In an interview with Salon, Pipes answers those charges, and warns that Muslims in America want Islamic law to rule the land.

Here is the link to an incredibly well-researched article that has prompted much of this discussion/controversy:

""Islamism is fascism""

BF, Agreed. But then, so are most if not all organized "religions". "You can't say that. That's blasphemy." Peace and love, George.

You can say whatever you like, George. It would be nice to back it up with some facts, but don't let that get in your way.

"Millitant Islam" is about as redundant as "Moderate Muslims".

If any Muslim denies they want Sharia, or, Islamic Law, to rule the world, they deny Islam. One cannot be a Muslim yet not desire world-wide Islamic rule. Islam does not make any distinction between religion and governance.

But then, so are most if not all organized "religions".

All religions and cultures are capable of turning fanatical enough to be called "fascist" if its members feel threatened enough. Germans felt that threatened in the 1930's. Moslems apparently feel that threatened today. But most cultures and religions, "organized" or not, do not, I believe, feel that threatened at the moment.

Hopefully the present climate is such that these spurious claims of "Islamophobia" will not only be instantly rejected, but will serve to discredit such related spurious ideas as homophobia.

The Koran was not even translated into English until fairly recently. Muslims said it was because Arabic is the "holy language" as that's the language in which the Koran was given to Mohammed. That made it sacreligious or something to translate it into one of "man's languages", rather than Allah's . I'm suuuure that was the only reason why they didn't want nonarabic nonmoslems to be able to read that thing.(/sarcasm)

(Yes, I've read it...Dawood (twice) and Abdullah Yusef Ali (once).)

You say most organized religions can be characterized as fascist.

The key to understanding any religious teaching is to read its scriptures. If you read the New Testament, the Bhagavad Gita, the Talmud, Tao Te Ching, etc. you find love, compassion, and peace. If you read the Koran you find anger, hatred, and advice to murder Christians and Jews. If you listen to Islamic sermons in the mosques you get anger, not peace and love.

Islam is not a religion in the sense that other world religions are.
