I think that the difference can be determined by the far more openmindedness of the people here at freerepublic
If a DU poster wanted to have a respectful and sensible debate here on freerepublic, we would debate them. And though they may have to wear asbestos underwear, they probably would NOT get banned suspended or otherwise thrown off freerepublic UNLESS they became a disrupter.
But try to have a debate over at DU(h) and you're history at light speed. Also I never ever see ANY facts to support any claims they make about ANYTHING. At best you will get some clymer communist professors unsubstaniated hypocritical ravings about whatever hate America hate Bush hate freedom topic they happen to be discussing at the time.
To me ... they are so hopelessly absorbed with themselves that they cannot hear anything that is not condoned, blessed, annointed, or approved by their masters ... the elitist denisons of the far left ivory towers. It would be like trying to talk with someone from an other universe or dimension. So why bother ....
I'm with you on that one. Seems to me that some of the things DUH'ers and the kumbaya, "I won't pledge allegiance," gang are saying and doing are the social equivolent of shouting "fire" in a crowded theater and compromises national security in abusing the right of free speech by giving vocal aid and comfort to the enemy. Didn't the president say, "if you're not for America you are for the terrorists?"
I've never seen a lib anywhere use facts to support an argument. I've seen them use lies, innuendo, jealousy, and insults but never facts.
Looking at the conservatives, you could say that they are "mean" because they won't let people have their way but they don't misrepresent the facts.
At FR, you can assert whatever the heck you want- but you must be prepared to back it up with facts and logic. Over there, you can only assert certain ideas, and they are never buttressed with either fact or logic.
Indeed it is this lack of a willingness to debate facts that has given the left the deserved monikers they so despise...
No facts, no logic, just emotion.
They will attempt to persuade using emotion alone- and in a debate they just fall flat. It makes them so angry that they haven't yet learned why they promote the agenda they've been told to promote.
With brains like theirs (or is it a single collective brain...morg?), I'm happy I don't fit it with them!

I first logged on with my name, "Come get it", and proceeded to give a reasoned argument against abortion. I defended every post I made without insulting or flaming anyone. I even was able to reason with a few lost souls, until one person just decided to be a bigot and boot me.
I then logged in under the name of "CGI" so that they would know who I was (I had to defend myself against those who were calling me a bigot while practicing the same). You can log on again with a different e-mail (I now have several hotmail accounts). I continued my argument until I made a knee-jerk reaction and offended someone. That was it for "CGI".
Next, I was "Come_get_it", with yet another hotmail account. I apologized to the woman I had offended just in time before I was booted again (seems they recognized the name variation).
I do not condone disrupting. I was presenting reasonable arguments, being very careful to not offend anyone. They HATE polite FReepers!
