AMHERST, N.Y., Nov. 6 If you watched the World Series, you might think God Bless America had become the national anthem. I admit its easier to sing than The Star-Spangled Banner. But it begins with the word God, and in a land of unprecedented religious diversity that is exclusionary language.
Political Correctness at its worst.

Yup, it needs FReepin'. And I'm not one to jump on these kind of threads. So far it's SSB and GBA neck and neck at 36%.

Tied with the SSB. I can't believe "This land is your land" is a choice. Yes it is a cute song...but a national anthem??

let's stay with the Banner! as in the Star Spangled !

I'm Freeping the poll on general principles, but I must admit I prefer "The Star Spangled Banner" for historical reasons.
If you want God in it, sing the last verse.

"This land is your land" as a selection really sucks.

FReeped as requested
Although I prefer our "militaristic" and hard to sing (not for my 13-yod, LOL) national anthem, there is something delightful about annoying this guy. Besides, I love the idea of a bunch of secular humanists singing a song written by a "that little Jew-boy," as they used to call Irving Berlin.

Agreed about FReeping that on principle. But I'd like to throw my vote behind Ray Charles' version of America the Beautiful. Awesome! Is it possible to have him sing that before every ballgame? Might have to break a few immutable laws regarding time and space, but what the hell...

Sorry I much as I would love to make that guy feel bad. I love the Star Spangled Banner. I just wish they would sing the part that mentions God.

I lean your way for SSB, but I want to piss that pin head off and all his PC'isms

I nominate Charlie Daniel's, "This Ain't no rag, It's a Flag":
This aint no rag its a flag and we dont wear it on our heads,
Its a symbol of the land where the good guys live are you listening to what I said,
Youre a coward and a fool and you broke all the rules and you wounded our American pride,
Now were coming with a gun and we know youre gonna run but you cant find no place to hide
Were gonna hunt you down like a mad dog hound and make you pay for the lives you stole,
Were all through talking and messing around and now its time to rock and roll
These colors dont run and were speaking as one when we say united we stand
If you mess with one you mess with us all every boy, girl, woman and man
Youve been acting mighty rash and talking that trash but let me give you some advice
You can crawl back in your hole like a dirty little mole but now its time to pay the price
You might have shot us in the back but now you have to face the fact that the big boys in the game
The lightning's been flashing and the thunders been crashing and now its gettin ready to rain
This is the United States of America the land of the brave and free
We believe in God, we believe in justice, we believe in liberty
Youve been pulling our chain we shoulda done something about you a long time ago
But now the flags flying high and the furs gonna fly and now the whole worlds gonna know
This aint no rag its a flag old glory red white and blue
The stars and stripes and when it comes to a fight we can do what we have to do
Our people stand proud the American crowd is faithful and loyal and tough
Were as good as the best and better than the rest youre gonna find out soon enough
When you look up in the sky and you see the eagle fly youd better know hes headed your way
This aint no rag its a flag and it stands for the USA

Agreed.

SSB and GBA still neck and neck. My husband's great-aunt's song (America the Beautiful) was at 19%.
But I feel so dirty going to the PMSNBC site, next someone will ask me to shop in Berkeley.

But it begins with the word God, and in a land of unprecedented religious diversity that is exclusionary language.I'm sure that this is a problem in Great Britain to, "God Save the Queen".
