GULBAHAR, Afghanistan -- Four Western men in wraparound sunglasses and U.S. sportswear were on the sidelines watching and videotaping as anti-Taliban troops practiced for battle on a barren hillside Sunday.
When a journalist asked who they were and what they were doing, the men went deeper under cover of their Afghan head scarves and refused to speak. They ducked into a white van with blue curtains and sped off, and the Northern Alliance's military maneuvers went on without them.

What do YOU think?

I am now indexing this thread for the Hugh Hewitt bump_list.Morning Glory and Evening Grace!
I am establishing a new measure for folks in the media. Its called the treason index. 1A 10 on the index corresponds to Robert Hanson-like spying. A 1 I reserved for dummies like Barbara Kingsolver and Bill Maher. Now read todays Los Angeles Times piece, "Silent Men Speak to a U.S. Presence in Afghanistan," and e-mail your ranking of the piece. If you think its outrageous, call the paper at (800) 252-9141 and cancel your subscription. The write the editor a note. Hes John Carroll, and his e-mail is john.carroll@latimes.com. Then write the big boss in Chicago a note. Thats John Madigan at the Tribune Company. His e-mail is master-webmaster@tribune.com. His phone number is 312-222-9100 x 3123.Please let me know of other instances of candidates for rating on the treason index.
If anyone finds ANY thread that may be of interest to nationally syndicated talk show host Hugh Hewitt (or his listeners), just post a reply to "Hugh Hewitt," and THAT thread will be marked for retrieval, when that bump_list link is clicked.
Check out the posts ALREADY marked for Hugh's attention at http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/fr/involved?group=81, and
on threads marked on the OTHER interesting "bump_lists" on John Robinson's official "Free Republic Bump List Register."For more about Hugh, read HUGH HEWITT and Free Republic: How should we help him help us? [Who **IS** this guy?]
(If you want OFF - or ON - my "Hugh Hewitt PING list" - please let me know.)
Thanks, abner!

The Minnesota Twins? If private funds won't keep the franchise in Minnesota, that's too bad. I call it capitalism. ;=)
I'm a Twins fan from way back. First ballgame I ever went to, way before the HHH Metrodish.
A numerical assignment made by averaging the rankings from readers for each story, and then averaging the average TI's for ALL of the reporter's stories, would be a handy way to spot those who are fighting the jihad against us.
It also would allow for redemption in the case of a reporter who just screws up, since a cumulative average would depend on many stories, not just one.
As to LA Times, I'd say about a 3 or 4 for treason, and a 10 for crass stupidity.
This is a good idea, and I must commend Mr. Hewitt. I suggest that cumulative ratings for reporters be produced, so that we could rank a reporter on the cumulative treason index scale.
Good idea, Miss Marple! Although it seems that THIS reporter, Paul Watson, is working from a rather SEVERE deficit that will be difficult to overcome.
What are the odds that the L.A. Times will print anything that will improve the poor guy's average?
How about a COMBINED treason score for each newspaper?
