Vanity: I was there when the Diamondbacks Made History!!! Were any of you there ???
Me ^ | November 5, 2001 | RooRoobird14, Insane Diamondbacks Fan!!!

If you thought it was an exciting series on TV, you can't even imagine what it's like to actually be there at the game. Hubby and I were there for both games six and seven, and it was UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

Only two things would have made Game 7 better:

(1) NOT having McQueeg throw out the first pitch. That was a Defcon Delta BARF ALERT as far as I'm concerned!!

(2) Roger Clemens NOT going completely psycho like he sometimes does. Hubby and I were hoping he'd be hauled off in a straight jacket and muzzle like Hannibal Lecter--LOLOLOLOLOL!!!

If you weren't there at the game, don't worry, I screamed enough for all of you!!! Happy "World Champion Monday" to all of you!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!

There were even three guys who set up an easy chair, couch and coffee table right out there on Jackson street--LOL!

LOL! We used to see that a lot lining the Mardi Gras parade routes in New Orleans until the City finally passed an ordinance....NO FURNITURE ALLOWED ON PARADE ROUTES! Hahahahaha!

That's too funny!

My theory is that they were expecting either a grounder or sacrifice bunt. The real problem was seperations. Because Gonzales can hit a decent homer (57 this year, well above his average but you have to play by this year's stats), and is an excellent directional hitter they had the outfield deep and the infield shallow, thus giving a huge middle gap, normally this is a safe play, that's a hard area of the field to hit to, and most hitters avoid it since 90% they'll be caught out if they hit there (by either a shallow outfield or deep infeild). From what I saw in the post game interview Gonzales didn't actually want to hit it there either but that's where it went and it was perfect.

Just kidding.

I once told someone that I was at the game where Ripkin broke the consecutive game record, since I went to a game late in the year and, technically, Ripkin was breaking his own record in every game he played. I added that I was getting peanuts when Ripkin came to bat.

It was clever of Fox, albeit annoying and anti-baseball, to flash the emmy winners on screen.

Agreed! I taped the game and was highly annoyed to have that EMMY crapola recorded on there. If ya wanted to know, ya coulda switched the station.

P.S. - I knew you had to be jerkin' our chain when you said you left during the 8th inning. Afterall, McCarver and Buck said noone left early - and they wouldn't fib, would they!?

Yes indeed. Another example of just how stupid it is to support professional teams that have been perennial losers for 20-50-100 yrs(redsox, cubs, lions....oh, did mention the(0-7 and 0 for almost 50 year)LIONS who sold 55,000+ season tickets this year...LOL).

Let's see.... Florida Marlins, Baltimore Ravens, Colorado Avalanche, St. Louis Rams, Arizona D'backs....and just in the last few years!

As for the old timers.....just build-em a new stadium and offer a bobble-head doll and the chumps will continue to fill it up.

Congrat's to the D'Backs.......one of the best series in years!

First off, congratulations. I was on the field after Game 7 of the 1991 World Series when I was a sportscaster and I can agree with you that there's no feeling like watching your team win.

Second, I'd just tell you that it took my lowly Minnesota Twins only six games to beat the Yankees four times this year, so you're slipping :)

However, since The Bud Selig Traveling Greed Show seems about to swallow up my team, you'll get an entire lifetime of last laughs. The king is dead. Long live the king!

I'm happy for you....one question though....what was with them playing snippets of Sinatra singing "New York, New York" after the Game Six....what was the reaction in the crowd?

Did not make the game in person but my family rooted for the Snakes and my daughter said at the top of the ninth that the D-Backs would win. I slept better knowing all was well with Baseball once again and we won't have to put up with the N. Y. Yankees on the "Wheaties" boxes.

That's called "all in good fun". Yankee Stadium has a tradition of playing "New York New York" after important wins. I just about fell out of my chair laughing, good thing they stopped the song when they did, I could have been injured.

What exactly are you trying to say here? The Marlins bought the ring. Which is fine. They hired experienced, good players for a year and it worked. They now suck. Baltimore used to be Cleveland so they aren't really new. The 'Lanche used to be the Nordiques, the Rams have been around forever, just new city. D'Backs are four years old. They have shown what teams have known for years: starting pitching wins. Look at the Yanks, Braves. The Arizona bullpen ain't that great. Especially their short relief. They have good hitting, but there a plenty of teams with just as good or better. My hats are off to them. So glad they beat the Spankees. That was the best series I can remember. But next year, GO METS!

thanks for the 1'st hand account. I'm so glad that Fox had the good taste not to show McCain throw out the first pitch. When that stealth bomber flew over there were thousands of people all over Phoenix who ran outside to look for that jet. But only people near the ballpark had a really good view of it. There were very few cars on the streets during the game. In some areas people set up big tv's in their front yards and were watching it outside.

Congrats. Great series. I am a Yankee fan. I am sad that the baseball season is over. But it was a great series. Game 7 was incredible. What drama. The Big Unit was amazing. Who would have thought it would end like that? Beat Rivera? Wow.
