My good friend and Free Republic regular Jeff Head spoke with me on the phone this afternoon with the great news that POCKETPCPRESS, a major publisher of electronic books, has expressed strong interest in Jeff's recently completed work of fiction:
Which is a tale of the coming third world war. Mr. Doug Clapp of PocketPCpress wrote in his endorsement on Jeff's website:
"My company, PocketPCpress, gets to see a ton of novel submissions. Most are truly terrible...which is sad. We wish it weren't so.
We recently had the good fortune to read Dragon's Fury-Breath of Fire by Jeff Head and -- for the first time in a long, long while -- we were absolutely knocked out.
Don't be mislead by the fact that -- for now -- this is a self-published book offered only on the author's website. I'm sure this won't be the case for long. This is an amazingly accomplished, professional, techno-thriller that will make you turn page after page after page -- and enjoy every minute of it.
I could go on about plotting and characterization and all that, but I won't. This is simply a hellava great read and "right on" about what's happening in the world today. Tom Clancy now has some serious, serious competition."
Doug Clapp
Jeff went on to mention that Mr. Clapp has also put him in contact with a New York literary agent who has requested expedited delivery of a complete hard copy manuscript in anticipation of possible print publication. For those of you who may not have seen the initial announcement, excerpts from Jeff's book Breath of Fire can be found here.
This is a most noteworthy and laudable achievement and a source of pride for all of us here. It is also even further evidence that Free Republic is the beacon of American liberty which both attracts and stimulates the brightest minds to be found on the net or anywhere. Congratulations to you, Jeff !

The initial order for printed books is placed. This outfit is actually sending me a proof this week ... ie. qty of one ... and hopefully that will be in good order and we approve from there for the rest being printed and being in late the following week.
My 12 year old nephew here in town asked me to reserve a print copy for him. Will be sending an order.
Tell your nephew, if he has an interestt, to get into building scale models, aircraft and ships. I am quite the 1/72 scale aircraft enthusiast. Monogram's B-1B, Testors B-2 and AMT's B-52H are the best 1/72 scale bombers (IMHO) readily available.
I have about thirty 1/72 scale modern fighter, bomber and recon aircraft built and authentically painted and detailed and have about 12-15 more yet to build.
Also, am big into 1/700 and 1/350 scale ships. Have an entire US and an entire Russian CBG in 1/720.
Also have the battleship Missouri (modernized version with tomohawks and harpoon missile launchers), a Spruance class DDG and a Ticonderoga class CG built in 1/350 scale (the Missouri is BIG) also have the 1/350 scale USS Enterprize waiting to build. That one is mu ultimate ship model. Got it for Christmas about five years ago and am still waiting for the right tiome to start building it when I can give it the attention it deserves.
Oh well ... I'll post a couple of pics later this morning to this thread so you can show him if he has any interest.
Regards.
I bought him an SB2C Helldiver ( also 1/48 Monogram ) for the fact that the gear retracts, the hook works, the wings fold, the canopies slide, the bomb bay doors work and the 500 lb bomb drops. He & his dad put that one together . His new interest is in all things explosive and we spent a whole day at WPAFB looking at the various munitions.
Wooo! That's a heck of a comparison, and a heck of a compliment. Having read all of Clancy's stuff (well, the "Jack Ryan" fiction, anyways), I guess I'd better take a look at this. Congratulations!
I'd write a book if only I could figure out what to write about that I'm a subject matter expert in that would also be interesting to someone else...
So, so much for that idea. ;-)
