...(oops I guess I am doing a little racial profiling in reporting this one) All you have to do is use < profile >AMAL TAHLAL (sp?) has a restraining order against him< /profile> and everything's cool.

tell them that we will not buy or fly until they start the deportations. I'm also going to buy the minimum I can for this Christmas unless I see the deportations start. As long as those people are here, they will try to kill us, they are following orders being given in some other country. As long as they continue killing Americans, the economy will fail. The approach taken of leaving enemy foreign agents in our midst is insane.

Nothing on AP Breaking news about this...

"I'm hardly a nuclear physicist, ..."
Me either, but I am a gravitational physicist, so let me take a quick swing at it. They work by detecting alpha, beta and gamma rays as they impinge a plate in the device. The only thing that would thwart detection is shielding. Even with the shielding typically employed with, say, ADM (Atomic Demolitions Munitions) there is still some residual radiation (a, b, and g rays) that can be detected. The more 'stuff' between the object and the detector, and the more dense that stuff is, the less detectable it will be. Shopping mall floors and walls (excluding concrete) would be considered of low density in this context.

I was wondering about that too. A big, underground parking lot would be a good place to leave a truck until you're ready to go out on The Mission.
Well I don't know if it was a bomb, but after 9/11 you have an awful lot of people who would probably not like to have to continue working in high rise buildings (I hear that the Empire State building has some tenants planning on leaving).
Destroy one popular mall and kill a lot of people, and you'd have a lot of Americans not going to any malls, for at least a while.
I hope this was not a bombing attempt. I have seen so many deliveries to restaurants from rental trucks, usually boxes of produce and bags of flour but many times drums of powders and liquids (though not 55 gal drums too many times).
There is a large Asian population south of Boston, and it seems like one out of ten of their homes has a Van with some noodle company name on the side and the van is full of boxes. The deliveries to the many small Chinese takeout restaurants are made by all sorts of station wagons, vans amd box trucks, some marked with a business name and some Uhaul or Ryder rental types. This van in the mall could have been one of these type delivery vans...or it could hold a bomb.

"I'm asking why the media silence? This isn't just another spilt powder causes soccer mom to faint story." I believe there is a Fox News thread about this same incident.

think that the biggest hammer that the American people have is to write or call their congress critters and tell them that we will not buy or fly until they start the deportationsI've written but I haven't tried that tactic, but I will. That'll probably get their PC attention. And speaking of P.C....if we don't kill political cerrectness it's going to cause the destruction of this country. We're afraid to take prudent steps to ensure the safety of Americans because we might hurt our enemy's feelings.

Thanks for the tip ;) They updated the license plate on this Ryder cargo van--possibly a "W" before the 4789H7, and it MAY be Florida plate-----earlier another cop saw a white Ryder van with an OK plate--not sure if this is the same one...they have someone in custody and are talking about a canine unit--have to listen--not sure what this is about

What I don't understand is why the Cable News stations aren't picking this up - It seems like big news to me. A rental truck with possible exposives is flying down highway. Don't you think that is big news? If they report it, then they will be expected to give 'follow ups'. How often do we see or hear something on tv then wonder whatever became of the story?

Did I dig MIT? I thought I did a dig at Haaaarvard. I don't have anything against MIT. If I did, I am sorry. I did say their big tower was a good target and by that I meant a high visibility target, not a target I would like to see hit. Maybe I should have said a target that the bin ladens would like to hit. There are alot of them around that area or at least they were there prior to WTC. Anyway, I didn't mean to offend you at all. Please don't sic the MIT alumni association on me. I have already tangled with a young man from MIT who had an article in their news that was posted here a while ago. I emailed him and he answered me saying my email had disturbed him more than anyone else among his numerous mails {I was flattered}. Then we had a long email correspondance and he was really a sweet guy who was long on protest and short on historical knowledge. He is now leading some kind of protest consortium of universities so I guess I didn't reform him but it was fun to talk with him.

mmmm....has anyone on this thread posed the question the the mall security might have made the story up for self adjulating attention?

Friday night traffic in Boston, 2 and 1/2 hours from Cambridge would put them around Newton.

This isn't just another spilt powder causes soccer mom to faint story. No, this is a story that will keep "soccer moms" out of the malls....major economy blow.

Seems like a more popular mall to nail would be the Burlington Mall, not this one in Cambridge.

You are right about that - I wonder what other things are going on right this minute that we don't know about - not a very good thought.
