"Harry Potter is not God honoring it does not help in teaching children to put God first in their lives in fact it does the opposite it tells them that what God considers wicked is really ok and kind of cool in fact."

Back up your last statement. Proof, please. Sure the theme of Potter may be witchcraft, but does it tell children to engage in that behaviour? Again, no one can provide proof -- just speculation. That's why it's so easy to dismiss this hogwash from the 'religious right'.

Going to NBA games (thank goodness we finally have a team here in Memphis!) doesn't teach us to put God first either. Does this mean I should stop going to NBA ball games? Some things are just value neutral -- Harry Potter is a narrative fantasy, not an instructional manual for the occult. My nephew knows the difference between Potter and real life. I question whether the religious-righties here know the difference.

Is Harry Potter so innocent??? I think not. Just consider Pokemon and the obsessive nature it imparted to so many kids. Harry Potter is the same deal. While I certainly won't condone censorship, I do agree with the original poster's warning. Now, that being said, if you aren't a Christian, then fine, do whatever you feel is right, and take your chances - it's your life. Does the series get kids interested in reading? Hmmm... what other books have they read now thanks to the Potter books? Do the books instruct children in the arts of true witchcraft? Hard to say. I have witnessed children affected quite adversely by D&D, but without having read one of the Potter books (just not interested in them), I can't say whether or not they actually instruct.

Blasting other people because they believe the Bible is not constructive. The poster is again, sending a warning to concerned Christian parents. Christians that defend the books, well... what can be said? I suppose that if you don't feel bothered by it, then whatever.

Mocking Christians at this site is kind of loopy. Without them, you can just about flush any future conservatives winning any sort of an election down the toilet.

We get all up in arms about Hollywood liberalism and media liberalism, but when it comes to something written by a liberal as fantasy, that our kids enjoy, well, that's okay... no indoctrination could be happening there. Yeah... sure.

You profess to be a Christian, yet you defend a book that embraces witchcraft. One question, when your standing at the judgment seat of Christ (and you will) how will you explain your misguided judgment. Be hot or cold not luke warm........

Proof? What about the moral decay of this nation? If we stray from Gods laws we are left with the consequences of our actions. It wont be a drastic change overnight but if we continue it will happen over time.

I am not saying that after reading this book one will go out and want to be a witch, but one may be more accepting of witchcraft.

The question isn't, "does it tell children to engage in that behavior"..... the question is - does it or does it not glorify witchcraft/sorcery? Yes or no? Does it make it fun and cool?

And FYI - you may not know this, but among teens (especially girls) Wicca has become VERY popular in the last few years. Do you ever surf the web? From having my own site, I'm a member of lots of webrings and I've stumbled across so many sites created by young people having to do with Wicca, Paganism, and even satanism. They think its cool. It may seem harmless to you, but I agree with what wendelmyer said. Those things (witchcraft, wicca) lead kids down the wrong path -- and as he said, it tells them that what God considers wicked is really ok and kind of cool in fact.

I remember reading Alice in Wonderland -- a GREAT book for a person of ten or so. I understood the one interpretation, which claimed the undertones of "dropping acid".

I have never dropped acid, nor do I EVER intend to. Am I wrong for thinking like this? I need guidance. Thank God for government.

Thank you, oh kind and loving omnipotent state!

For 23 years, my wife has told me what to do. Now she's mellowing. Am I wrong for being happy?
