but somebody that believes that a story book is going to destroy Christianity & thinks it's going to turn the whole human race into Witches can't be very damn rational, can they?

I don't believe that was the point of the post. I can't imagine that anyone believes that.

Is to be pitied. Their faith must be quite brittle...

If there is the potential for working supernatural magick via withcraft, it shouldn't be impossible to scientifically document.
In any field, there are humans who excel. However, NO ONE has ever convincingly documented the successful workings of witchcraft in any form.
I can understand humans wanting to hang out and act weird. It's fun.
It also strikes me as strange that most kids have a better understanding of the division between fantasy and reality than many adults.

"I believe you better check again. The Bible says we are to avoid witchcraft."

That's the big contention -- is reading Harry Potter books a participation in witchcraf? However, even if Harry Potter (A fictional character) participates in witchcraft, does that make someone who reads the book a participant to the witchcraft? Hardly!

I enjoyed the movie 'Willow' -- does that make me a participant to sorcery? I liked the Godfather, Parts 1 and II -- does that make me a participant to mob activity? I like Austin Powers movies -- does that make me a groovy swinger?

I think the "religious right" has more dificulty separating reality from fantasy than children do.

"Potter may be harmless to adults but the marketing machine is aimed at children. It may not TEACH witchcraft but it makes it more acceptable to children..."

They said the same hogwash about Dungeons and Dragons when I was a child. They talked about how it made children interested in the occult and all of the same false claims regurgitated by the so-called "religious right" of today. Out of all of my friends who played D&D with me, none of us ever turned toward paganism or the occult.

The people who make God a big deal are in the headlines a lot these days. Let me know when they find it's the Wiccans flying planes into buildings and spreading anthrax.

You think THAT'S rough, I fell under the influence of the the back-masked 'Mr. Ed' theme.

Now, I eat babies.

By far the funniest post of the day, if not the year! Oh, wait. Your serious!

From the post: "The books, marketed to impressionable children, pose a long-term threat to Judeo-Christian faith and culture". That's pretty serious.

If a parent wants to forbid his children to read any given book, that's ok, it's none of my business. But someone who speaks of a "long-term threat" might be serious.

Yes, and do you have anything to offer us heathen Jews who don't buy into the New Testament?

I was watching some stupid movie on Halloween called Troll. It starred Michael Moriarity and Sonny Bono and some kid.

The hero of the movie was the kid. Who fought the Troll using magic. His name was Harry Potter.

The movie came out in 1986. The first J.K. Rowling book came out in 1998.

So what's the deal with the name "Harry Potter?" It seems a real unlikely coincidence.

Burning paper and murdering 5,000 people is a bit different, don't you think?

The Taliban started with the burning of paper, movies and tv's.

My high school had a copy of Mein Kampf. I tried to read it, but it was just unreadable. Maybe it was a poor translation, but it was just incoherent.

Have you read all the posts, their quoting scripture & anything that mentions magic, witches or wizards being evil. I most definately believe that's what they mean. Now Pork & Beans just wanted to throw in a cheap shot at me because of my screen name, so I lumped him in with the rest. That's alright I have very strong wide shoulders I don't get stress, I give it. So anybody else want's to take any more potshots, be my guest.
