1. Secretary Rumsfeld has said American ground force levels will increase.

2. The United States has stated it WILL NOT stop military operations for Ramadan.

3. Senior Administration officials know about Pakistan's aid to the Talibums, but chose to praise their support of America's war effort.
[I really hope that's just the public posture. Pakistan's duplicity is too much!]

4. The FBI warned Kantafordia and seven other western states about possible attacks to landmark targets, especially suspension bridges.

5. The United States is said to be looking forward to winter in Afgoneistan.

6. The House passed its version of the Airline Safety Bill - this version keeps security in private hands with Federal oversight. It will have to be reconciled with the Senate version, which Federalizes the entire operation.
[Much better bill than the Senate. Hopefully it will carry the day. Now off to conference it goes.]

7. Four new mailrooms in Maryland test positive for anthrax - all Federal mailrooms, at the Rockville headquarters of the Food and Drug Administration.
[If it weren't so serious, there's a certain irony to this.]

8. The Postal Service bought 700,000 protective masks to guard their workers against anthrax, but OSHA regulations prevent their use until signficant training is undertaken.
